A NSW mum has shared a clever Kmart hack to help wash her autistic daughters hair after struggling with huge meltdowns.

Elle Maree shared her hack in a Kmart mums group and due to it being so popular she also shared on a few FB pages.

She wrote, “Hands down my BEST Kmart hack yet!

My little girl is autistic and has a lot of sensory processing issues. Washing her hair is *horrific* for us and ends up in terribly long meltdowns.

After her occupational therapist working some magic with hair brushing and having her laid down to do so, I decided to test out washing her hair laying down.

I cut a side out of a container and chopped up a pool noodle to create soft edges. Combined with some sensory textures, we had a mini hairdresser experience set up in the hallway and there was NO anxiety, NO tears, NO stress. I actually got smiles and an I love you as she relaxed.”

The mother has received thousands of comments praising her for such a clever idea!

  • What a great idea! The things we do for our children. I totally understand this woman’s situation with her child. I have a son with sensory issues and when you find something that works, you just run with it.
