A mother forced her son to wear a T-shirt saying ‘I am a bully’ to school after teachers told her he called classmates ‘stupid idiots’.

The Texas mum said she was ‘old school’ and wanted to teach her 11-year-old son a lesson, shares Daily Mail.

She posted pictures of the boy wearing the T-shirt on Facebook – but soon removed them after a furious backlash from people who criticised her ‘cruel’ parenting.

‘I don’t coddle my children. I don’t sugar-coat the world to them,’ the mother told KTRK.

She said her plan worked because her son is already treating his siblings and cousins better.

‘I wanted to know what he learned from it and he said, “I learned that I didn’t like the way that that felt and I don’t want anybody else to feel that way because of me,” she said.

‘That’s exactly what I wanted him to take from it.’

The mother said she made the Facebook post so the children he had been bullying would see it.

A school counsellor checked on the child throughout the day and intends to follow up further with the parents as well.

Do you think this is a good way to teach kids a lesson?

  • She wanted to teach him a lesson – but this was a bit harsh.

  • I like that the mother took action, however, I don’t agree with the method she choose to take.

  • I’m not sure it was the best way to teach him a lesson however I applaud her being proactive about her sons actions rather than trying to ‘save’ him.

  • This kind of act never makes sense to me. It does not teach, it just humiliates which causes a whole lot of other issues.

  • No, I don’t think we teach our kids the right lesson when we ridicule or humiliate them. We then would give them the bad example and bully our kids ourselves. When we want to teach our kids to respect other people and their belongings, it all starts with us showing respect to our kids ourselves, their belongings and others

  • I wouldn’t have used that method. However I’m not sure what I would do.
Maybe the parents could have talked him about it and made it clear his behaviour was not acceptable. They could have told him they were going to treat him like he treated others for part of a day and made him realise what he was doing to others. I hope he has apologised to those he has been bullying.

  • I think parents who punish their children by humiliating them are the example of bullying behaviour their kids are learning from.
