Mum surprised to find unexpected item after purchasing Christmas cards from Big W.

Mum-of-three Laura told The Daily Telegraph that she initially suspected it was a condom.

“I did take the cards back and the staff where a bit shocked too but opened them to see what is was while I was there as I was really concerned and wanted to contact the supplier if it turned out to be a condom,” she said today.

Laura said the rubber turned out to be a latex finger cover, which may have been used for counting the cards before packaging.

“When they pulled it out, it turned out to be one of those long finger cover things.

“Still was a shock to my system for a good 24 hours wondering what on earth it was and will still contact the company about it as it’s not a good look when you get something like that in a packet of Christmas cards, but was thankful that’s all it was.”

“I almost gave the cards to my kids to write out, until I noticed that in there,” she said.
“The purpose for buying the cards was for them to hand out heading into the last week of school of the year.”

A Big W spokeswoman said: “At BIG W, we continually work hard with all of our suppliers to ensure BIG W’s products meet the safety and quality standards both BIG W and our customers expect.

“While this matter appears to be an isolated incident, we are checking the packaging of remaining products so customers can be confident of product safety.”

  • No surprises in cards or presents – the only shock is the cost of cards and presents! ;)

  • oh well, it turned out to be fine but she still had to tell the world lol. Now christmas cards are ruined for everyone who will think of condom cards lol

  • We called them finger frangers at the cafe I worked at. They really are just mini condoms to cover cuts and stuff on your fingers. Would be quite a shock to find one in a pack of cards.

  • Wow, I can understand how distressing this must have been at first.

  • Those finger covers look a lot more comfortable than the ones we had at work when we were doing filing. They were made from thick coloured rubber.

  • I can certainly see how she thought it was a condom though. poor lady.

  • Nothing strange in new items for me. But in second hand books or books from the library I found a couple of times postcards that people probably used as bookmarks, and then forgot.

    • I have found photos and even letters in books!

  • Goodness, with that headline I thought the mum had either found a snake or an unpublished play by William Shakespeare in her Woollies cards. I’m a book collector and we quite often find all manner of strange items people use as book marks or things they’ve hidden and forgotten. Years ago I did find a condom (unused) still in it’s wrapper tucked between the pages of a book. I’ve never found any foreign objects in any new items I’ve purchased.
