A UK mum is desperate to spread the word about the dangers of jelly shoes after her two-year-old son suffered serious injuries to his feet.

Holly Marie Wright shared her warning on Facebook saying, “My Kaiden only has trainers so I thought I would treat him to some nice summer items and I found these cute little shoes so I brought [sic] them,” Holly wrote on Facebook.

“I put them on Kaiden to walk to the shop (the local shop is only about three mins away) and I thought everything was fine he wasn’t complaining or anything he was his happy self.”

It wasn’t until they were walking back Holly realised something wasn’t right.

“He started screaming and crying and refusing to walk on his feet and then I seen [sic] all the blood he was in so much pain.

“I ran home and tore the shoes off him to find they had cut up all of his feet.”

“He was in agony, his feet were swollen and the straps dug into his feet. His feet are still swollen now and he will have scars, I’m fuming,” Holly told Birmingham Live.

“They are kids’ shoes, they shouldn’t do this.

“I bought the sandals for my little boy for his feet to breathe. I didn’t expect them to do that.”

Some commenters have said that unfortunately that is what happens with jelly shoes when they get hot and you should always wear socks.

  • For starters, they’re in England, who would’ve thought it would get that hot in England! Secondly, they should come with appropriate warnings if they exist

  • There should at the very least be a warning about these shoes and the need to wear socks and not wear them on a very hot day – hope this mom sues the shop where she bought them and the manufacturer.

  • Ooh, that looks so sore and paintful and terrible. Who knew plastic shoes could do that?

  • Poor kid, his feet look awful and painful.
I personally do not understand how jelly shoes are still around. My mum bought my little sister and I a pair when we were about 8 and 4 years old. My sister wore hers from the shop and my mum actually took them back an hour or so later. My sister had awful blisters all over her feet from the shoes! We have never bought plastic shoes like jelly shoes since.

  • Plastic can be very dangerous, those chemicals that leach is very dangerous, I would only ever put leather sandals on my son when he was little.

  • OH MY GOD! They should have been tested and classed unacceptable. They are going on CHILDREN’S feet. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON WITH THE WORLD “STUPID PEOPLE”. You should sue them if you can afford to. I would be taking it further, and thank you for YOUR concern for children. Sometimes it really is a NO BRAINER! I hope your child’s feet are better soon.

  • OMG your poor son and it looks so painful. I hope he gets better soon and don’t you dare go blaming yourself for this happening. We can all say why didn’t you do this or that but what it all boils down to is we would have probably done the same. I wish him a speedy recovery. I had my young son (11 months) in the car and he was hot so I took his hat off him and took his shoes off to keep him cool when I had a tyre blow-out. The brakes locked and the car tipped over and rolled a few times. I ended up with a damaged leg but my son was covered in blood. We were raced to hospital and they kept us overnight. The blood from my son was from surface cuts to his head, otherwise he was fine. I felt like such a bad mother when the doctor said if I’d left his hat on he would have been fine. Turns out his car seat took the full force of the impact and most of the glass that cut his head had gone into the car seat instead of into him. Wish you both all the best
