The one safety video you need to watch asap!

Have you ever seen a child sitting in the front of a car and their little heads can hardly be seen above the dashboard?

Did you know that 12 is the recommended minimum age for sitting in the front seat?

Children younger than 12 are more at risk of injury from an airbag. Airbags save lives, but are designed for adults, not children.

Thinking your child might be ready to come out of their booster? Watch this short video RACV has produced which goes through a 5 step check.

Seatbelts are designed for people who are at least 145cm tall. To see if children are ready to stop using a booster seat and start using a seatbelt, use the 5 step test.

  1. Their back is flat against the seat back
  2. Their knees bend over the edge of the seat
  3. The seatbelt sits across the middle of their shoulder
  4. The seatbelt sits low across their hips and touches their thighs
  5. The child can sit comfortably this way for the entire trip

  • I hate my son sitting in the back with just a lap belt but with two others in kid seats what do you do. Is he safer with the lap belt or in the front. He’s not that much shorter than me at 10yrs.

  • The recommended mininum age for sitting in the front seat may be 12 but it is not law.
It also depends on the height of the child. My cousin was taller at age 10 than I was at 14….and I was the tallest in my class. I have long legs and long arms.
