Gentle C-sections are increasingly becoming a popular option for mothers who require a surgical birth but want a more traditional birth experience.

“Too often, women who deliver via cesarean section feel like they didn’t actually ‘give birth’ … and sometimes they struggle with the belief that they missed the childbirth experience,” Dr. Pamela Berens told the University of Texas Health Science Center’s Health Leader.

This amazing video shared on Instagram page fertilugo gives hope to mum’s no matter how they deliver.

What is a natural caesarean?
• It is described as a ‘natural’ approach that mimics a vaginal birth by allowing the parents to watch the birth of their child as active participants
•slow delivery with physiological autoresuscitation and
•the baby to be transferred directly onto the mother’s chest for early skin-to-skin.

Increasing evidence shows that women undergoing caesareans have a less satisfactory childbirth experience than those delivering vaginally and are more prone to postnatal depression, bonding difficulties and unsuccessful breastfeeding.

To improve the experience of women having uncomplicated caesareans, obstetric, midwifery and anaesthetic practices have evolved over the past 6 years to emulate as closely as practicable the aspects of ‘natural’ vaginal birth.

We recently shared Sarah Saunders youtube video of a “natural caesarean” which also went viral.

  • Agree with mom81879 – I have had both C-section and natural births and the C-section was the worst to live through. I really knew I had had a child then – the natural births were a breeze in comparison.

  • I saw another video which showed the baby being put on the Mum’s stomach just above the incision and him/her wriggling his/her way slowly up Mum’s body (closely observed by staff) after the cord was cut after it stopped pulsating. The stopped the film being played that showed the Surgeon closing the incision but the Dr. did describe how each “layer” was stitched together

  • I really wish the whole idea that a c sect isn’t giving birth wouldjust go away. If anything, sect mammas are even braver and more awesome because they have to recover from MAJOR surgery while dealing with a newborn. You aren’t ever going to be less of a parent because of where your baby cane out. Parenting is raising a child, not pushing one out!

  • Wow, interesting photos. Natural births here. I thought it bad enough when the midwife asked me if I wanted to touch the baby’s head as it came out (he had lots of hair!).

  • I am amazed when I hear of women who’ve had a caesarean say they feel cheated, like they missed out. You have beautiful healthy baby, isn’t that enough, no matter how it got here?!?!
