This National Recycling Week, Planet Ark is encouraging all Australians to take recycling action at their home, school or workplace.

Popular events the Tetra Pak Schools Recycle Right Challenge, The Big Aussie Swap and Friday File Fling are back, to highlight the importance of recycling. More details below:

Don’t want it? Swap it! The Big Aussie Swap is a fun and free way to help the environment.

Bring along quality items you no longer want, exchange each item for a token, then swap the token for items brought by others. It’s that easy!

Giving preloved goods another life new saves resources and reduces carbon emissions.

Why not be part of the Big Aussie Swap and organise your own Swap with friends, your book club or sports group?

The Friday File Fling is an opportunity to give your unwanted files the flick. With only one in 10 sheets of office paper currently being recycled, Planet Ark is encouraging individuals to set aside time on Friday 16 November to de-clutter their filing cabinets, give used paper another life and raise office paper recycling rates.

Schools around the country are invited to join the Tetra Pak Schools Recycle Right Challenge, a National Recycling Week initiative.

The Schools Recycle Right Challenge offers a wide range of recycling-themed activities, lesson plans and events ideas that have been developed specifically for Australian schools. Each resource has been developed to enable learning by doing, and learning by having fun!

The challenge will run for a six-week period from Monday 8 October to Friday 16 November 2012.

  • I love “Don’t want it swap it”. I think this would be a great idea for a fund raising event at schools.
Bring a item, donate $1 get a voucher and swap that for a item. All left over stuff could be donated to charity shops.

  • I just wish our local council would pick up the recycling each week instead of each fortnight, add a compost and worm farm into the mix and our actual rubbish is limited!
