Hello!

I have moments when I need motivation.

Either I need to read something or talk to someone that will lift me up, get me moving or help me through a rough patch. There’s nothing wrong with that, it’s completely normal. We are not born completely focused and motivated. We need encouragement, support and enthusiasm. It’s almost like we have a “drive tank” that needs refuelling occasionally. Some tanks are more efficient than others and can go further with less top-ups, some tanks guzzle the fuel like it’s going out of fashion, therefore need to be re-filled often.

I’ve been at the point where I’ve needed almost CONSTANT motivation. Someone on my back all the time, reminding me what my goal is, encouraging me with every little triumph and helping me if I stumble or fall. I learned that consistent application of motivation soon changes your attitude and once your attitude setting is turned more towards positive than negative, then you’ve won half the battle and each step gets easier with practice (your tank becomes more efficient at using the motivation you receive and therefore you don’t desperately need it as often). I’ve discovered if I sit still and quiet long enough, I can receive all the motivation I need from within. But we DON’T. . . we often choose not to sit still and quiet! Instead we choose to get on facebook or call a friend or go and eat something. Escaping from the reality of our feelings and thoughts and not dealing with the issue that could be trying to tell us something.

I’m a big believer in being able to speak to God whenever we need motivation. You might have heard it being referred to as prayer?! ;o) Here’s the thing, sometimes people think of prayer and they think hands clasped together, down on your knees, looking up at a church begging for help. This is not the prayer I know. The prayer I know involves simply sitting in silence and having a deep but casual conversation with God. Asking Him anything and everything. Telling Him everything. Asking Him to help me, be with me and reveal understanding or wisdom. There is rarely a moment where I am not surprised or overwhelmed at the response that enters my mind. And not just affecting my mind, but my HEART. Deeply moving me so that I do not only experience motivation and the desire to get moving – but filled with LOVE and HONESTY that allows me to push through ALMOST ANTYHING! That is amazing.

What do you need motivation with?

Whether you struggle with food issues (I do!), housework (I do!), organising or getting ready to go somewhere (I do!!), it all requires motivation. And if you have built in motivation that is accessible at any moment, that is great – use it! If you struggle and find that you need to be talked into something or helped along or inspired, then DO THAT! However you manage to motivate yourself to do the things you struggle with, be aware. Know what you need to get you going. Once you acknowledge that you have weak areas and NEED MOTIVATION, then you can do something about how to GET IT!

There is nothing wrong if you need prodding to stay fit or eat healthy or get your jobs done. There’s nothing wrong with failing to do this without setbacks either. Learn, move on and bring someone with you by sharing your motivation. All of life is experience. Live it! Don’t beat yourself up, don’t think that you’re a failure. Don’t tell yourself you can’t do something. AND don’t let FEAR paralyse you! Allow nothing to stop you from getting what you say you want. Even if it is just a clean kitchen or empty laundry or having more energy to get you through. If the thought of doing what you need to do overwhelms you – don’t let it. Acknowledge it’s presence. Understand you are probably vulnerable. Then gain the required motivation you need to get the job done. Because. . . sweetheart. . . no-one is going to do it for you!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you want a better body, healthier diet, nicer car, happier family – WHATEVER it is you want, go get the required motivation you need to get it and then get on with it. Don’t forget to remember where you came from, learn along the way and take someone with you. They’ll thank you for it later.

Putting on music is helpful and having a friend over to help is great and then you can go help them next-time. Love your point about feeling ‘overwhelmed’ Acknowledge it’s presence. • We all require it in some form or another. Finding it is sometimes harder than others. Some days all I need is to hear some music, any music, other days I need some serious sleep. lol
