After starting your family you may have the dream or goal to go back to school. While some may feel that would be difficult to do, it is actually very simple when you know what to look for. There are so many wonderful programs and options now for parents to be able to complete their degree after children. No matter how old you are, this is a dream and a goal you can accomplish. Colleges offer great programs and plans to help you become what you want to be. Take a look at a few tips here on how you can go back to school after having children.

Consider Online Programs

When you have a family at home and you work as well, it can be difficult to fit another thing into your already busy schedule. There is a way that going to university can fit in that schedule as well. Now you will find that many colleges offer online programs to get your degree. It is the same as being in the classroom, you simply do the work at home on your computer. That means you do not have to worry about going to school and missing out on something at home. You can take care of your family and then work on school work after they are all down for the evening. There are many great programs offered to get your certificate or degree online. You can even do some programs completely online.

Look For Scholarships

Many states and universities offer grants and scholarships to help you pay for your tertiary education. It can seem quite expensive and overwhelming when you are first looking. Some programs are out there to help parents just like you. Also each state typically has scholarships or grants for those living in the state to help with the cost of tuition and books. You may also find that your job has grants to help those who are going back to school. Do not forget to check your community and talk with your counselor at the school. There are many different ways available to help you pay for your education and to help you get that degree you desire.

Consider Renting Textbooks

If you are trying to find another way to help with the cost of returning to school, consider renting textbooks instead of buying them. This is a great new way that you can afford your books without having to pay hundreds of dollars for them. There are several places online and also may be some in your town that offer this option. You simply pay a smaller price for the book and give it back when you are done. This helps you defray some of those costs as books can be quite expensive depending on the course.

If you are considering going back to school after your family, there are ways to do it. You can achieve that goal of your university degree if you try. Don’t give up and always check out your options to help you get your degree.

  • Hmmm, I need to get onto this! I’m sure I will have too much time on my hands when the kids are at school, I will need to do something. It will be a massive step and I’m not sure how I’ll go after so long away, but I’ll give it a go, wish me luck

  • part of the fun in going back to learn new ideas or skills
can be done at any age, gave me and still does lots of thrills
when children were young was hard to fit study and homework in too
now they are grown can do what I wanted to do,
me doing art at TAFE, all others half my age at least
but we had great time and it was an educational feast

  • I’ve spent a lot of my years while pregnant or looking after babies doing some online study on the side – it felt like a way of keeping in touch while out of the paid workforce.

  • After spending so much of our time and energy bringing up a family, it can be so incredibly satisfying to do something for yourself. If study is what you want to do, whether it’s for interest, or with a view to getting a career again out of it, then go for it. Study is so much more flexible these days, and you really can tailor your study time around your family needs.

  • I am currently doing my Masters online, never heard of renting textbooks though. Recommend the library if things are really tight, both through uni and just the local can come through in a pinch.

After I read your article I’ve started to make inquiries about online courses that will be more flexible around my family.
