Hello!

Parents in Sydney will be sleeping less easy tonight after infamous killer and pedophile Michael Guider has been released from a prison today.

The 68-year old was convicted for killing schoolgirl Samantha Knight more than 30 years ago.

The notorious criminal walked free from Long Bay jail on Thursday afternoon after a bid to keep him in jail for another year, was rejected by the supreme court.

However, while Guider may be no longer behind bars, his movements will be closely scrutinised over the next five years. During this time, he will be under a strict supervision order with over 50 conditions, including that he will be electronically monitored 24 hours a day via an ankle bracelet.

Guider left the jail carrying two black garbage bags and an unruly beard. He will stay at a halfway house in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

Cold Blooded Killer

Guider has served 17 years for the manslaughter of nine-year-old Samantha, who disappeared from Bondi on 19 August 1986. He pleaded guilty to the horrific crime in 2002.

The victim’s body has never been found.

Attorney-General Mark Speakman was doing all he could to keep Guider off our streets.

But late on Wednesday night, Mr Speakman concluded any appeal would fail.

“So unfortunately and devastating for the families, I won’t be able to bring that appeal,” he told reporters before Guider walked free from the prison.

Closely Watched

Guider will not be permitted anywhere near places where children group together – such as schools, swimming pools and cinemas. In addition, his internet usage will be monitored and he will not be allowed to change his personal appearance without permission.

“He is a high risk of reoffending which is why we have sought this order to watch him like a hawk,” Mr Speakman said.

It’s a bad day for Australia justice and devastating for the parents, friends and extended family of Samantha.

  • They should’ve have let him out

  • Oh great the Attorney General says he’s at high risk of offending and yet they have still released him back onto the streets.

  • Very sad. Such a beautiful girl. I don’t know how he can live with himself..

  • This makes me feel so sick, that the judge admits that he has not been rehabilitated and lets him free to re-offend. His victims and the community deserve better than this, the jail sentences need to be life for these crimes

  • Hopefully all the measures taken will keep others safe. It should be made that to be released the person should state where the body is hiding, so the family can at least bury the body.

  • This is such a disgrace!

  • If he’s high risk, why is he out?

  • This is not good at all.

  • It’s a sad day when people like him are released

  • Even with all of these conditions there is no guarantee he won’t reoffend. Why wouldn’t he say where Samantha was buried so her parents could lay her to rest and give them some closure. I don’t think he is remorseful for what he did.

  • 24 hour monitoring is a comforting move. There’s so much complexity to making decisions about letting someone out or not.

  • He should not have been let out until he gave up the whereabouts of the body, he is dying anyway from a tumor so he is getting his karma.
