Hello!

Once upon a time, I received a random private message from a gentleman who was unknown to me on Facebook. Nothing unusual, I mean people are constantly trying to sell things on social media to complete strangers with no holding back – except his offering of an online baby is one which I won’t ever forget!

“Would you like another baby?” he asked, not in a sleazy or lewd way. But more in a ‘grab this baby before it runs out, it’s heavily discounted’ sort of opportunity.

I was utterly confused, yet extremely intrigued! How was this man going to randomly give me a baby!? Was he in trouble? Was he looking for someone to foster or even adopt a child? What precisely was involved in all of this? Whose baby was it, where did it come from? What about its parents – do they no longer want it?

All these thoughts running through my mind, but one thing I knew for certain – I could not turn down a baby. If it needed somewhere to stay, to be fed, clothed or looked after for any period of time, I knew I could do it for as long as they needed support.

“Yeah sure, what’s one more! What’s involved?” I replied.

Not What I Expected!

Turns out this wasn’t a ready-made baby that needed assistance! This guy was offering to help me conceive!

Let me make this clear though – he wasn’t after a relationship or anything along those lines. This was a business deal. And on offer was technically half of what I needed to make a baby.

Not only was I amused, but completely mind blown! After politely declining and letting him know that I have a hubby who I can rely on for baby making purposes I did a little bit of research into the whole ‘Social Media Conception Transaction’ scene. As it happens an online baby transaction is an actual thing!

You’ve heard of online friendships, online dating – well let me bring you the online baby!

Introducing the Online Baby

You can make an online baby with a complete stranger, with the intention of conceiving, via social media! Everyone has different terms and conditions as well as various ways of delivering the ‘goods’, depending on what you’re comfortable with!

Medical information seems to be available as well as the ability to mutually decide whether both parties will be known to the child – or whether the sperm donor will remain completely anonymous and off the birth certificate entirely.

What are the legal consequences of this online baby transaction though? And does money change hands? What price are these blokes placing on their service? And what happens if somewhere down the track they change their mind in any way? Are there any ramifications in all of this?

It would undoubtedly make for an extremely beautiful, unique, and completely unusual story to share with one’s child though, one day, if you wanted to tell them how they came to be selected.

What’s The Deal!

I am unsure what the difference is with cutting out the sperm clinics, but perhaps it’s the ability to assess the donor themselves in real life and see if they are actually what you want to have in the characteristics of your child.

Maybe it’s easier than going through a sperm bank, perhaps even more meaningful being able to meet the other half to your baby. Either way, the fact that people have actual portfolios including prior successful babies that they’ve helped to create is amazing! Imagine having a catalogue of babies to browse through before you make your decision!

Of course, I still wonder about the safety of the process and whether there could be unforeseen consequences down the track. It might be challenging if the father of a child changed his mind suddenly and wanted to be a part of his baby’s life – especially if he had already agreed to remain anonymous. But at least the option of this facility is there for anyone who may need it.

I’m curious about what the gentleman thought when I was willing to adopt or foster a baby randomly… I bet he thought I was crazy – and I’m not even the one offering half my DNA to produce a baby with a complete stranger!

It’s All A Bit Odd

How could he be certain that I didn’t have a criminal history though? That I would actually love and take care of his child? And there he was, ready willing and able to hand it over to me, no questions asked… what if I broke the terms of agreement and hit him up for child support one day? Or wanted him to participate in the little one’s life?

There may be a lot more to creating an online baby connection than these seemingly carefree blokes realise! We aren’t talking about simply palming off a cheap and nasty multilevel marketing product here, this is a little life and I feel that much more thought needs to go into it than randomly messaging some female that you don’t even know and offering to impregnate her!

  • I find this rather disturbing. Do they show proof that they have been STD tested.

  • Wow, this is new

  • Sounds very dangerous. So many factors that may not be considered when going through the process. I agree I don’t think the men fully understand it’s not just money for their help there is so much more involved.

  • No words. This dude was just after unprotected sex.

  • Ooh, this is concerning. This whole process absolutely has to be regulated to protect any potential parent/s and babies.

  • I think this is not good.

  • This is completely weird. I hope people don’t feel that they need to resort to this.

  • There would definitely have to be legal stuff to be signed. But the first thing that went through my mind was no different to a sperm bank, followed quickly by… predator! There could be men on there looking tho prey on women, or women using the service to look for men to prey on. Will there be testing for disease, STIs, criminal background? There are better and safer ways of making babies!

    • Surely it can’t be legal!! It sounds horrible though and I would want nothing to do with him
