Nurse, Megan Doodle, made her stance crystal clear on how she feels about anti-vaxxers.

She explained in her now viral Facebook post, that while parents should be allowed to choose whether or not to get their children immunised, the people who opt out shouldn’t be allowed to go to the doctor’s office when they get sick.

“I think that people who don’t want to vaccinate should have the freedom to do so,” wrote Megan. “If they think that ‘big pharma’ is just trying to turn a profit or poison us all . . . they should be allowed to believe that. But the caveat to that is this: Then they should NOT be allowed go to the doctor or the hospital when they get sick, looking for treatment.”

Megan explained that if mums and dads point to the pharmaceutical industry as their reason for not vaccinating, then by default they should also forgo other medical interventions:

“Big pharma makes those antibiotics we are going to pump you full of when you are about to die from sepsis. The steroids and Epi[Pen] we might give you to save your life from your anaphylaxis? Yep, big pharma is behind that too. That inhaler you need to treat your kids asthma? Better pass on that as well because, you guessed it, brought to you by Big P. Having a heart attack? Better break out your essential oils and get your affairs in order, because the only thing we have to offer you is medicine and procedures brought to you by the very same people who are responsible for those vaccines you insist are evil.

“Everything has risks. Everything has side effects.”

“Medicine is not perfect,” said Megan. “We advocate for vaccinating your children and yourself because science has PROVEN it’s the most effective method of controlling the spread of disease and giving you and everyone around you the best chance of NOT DYING from something preventable. Believe me when I say that not vaccinating yourself or your children because you believe that big pharma only cares about profit or that the scientific medical community has been duped, is 100 percent insanity.”

As a nurse, Megan said that she “takes offense” to anyone who would suggest she — or any other medical professional, for that matter — would ever knowingly give kids shots that would harm them. Furthermore, she emphasised that vaccines aren’t only meant to protect the healthy citizens.

“People always fire back with something like, ‘Well, if you are vaccinated, why do you care that I’m not? If you are so sure your vaccines work, It’s not like you can catch it.’ You are 100 percent right,” said Megan.

She added that: “I will probably be just fine. It’s my newborn baby who is too young to be vaccinated that I’m worried about, it’s my friend who is going through chemo, it’s a neighbor that is immune compromised, it’s my cousin who is allergic and can’t receive the vaccine. Yes, we tell you to get vaccinated to protect yourself, but it’s so much bigger than that. Vaccinate. Because it’s not just about YOU.”

In a follow up post Meg shared, “Did you know that your child is more likely to be injured or killed while riding in a car than they are to suffer a severe or life threatening vaccine reaction?

“I’d be willing to bet you arent lining up to turn in your keys and swear off driving forever…”

“Unless you plan on giving up driving, bicycles, swimming, BB guns, anything your kids might ever accidentally ingest and dogs….

You are putting your children in much greater danger than by getting them vaccinated.”

  • I 100% agree with this, Vaccination is not just about yourself but also proteching the greatest community. Diseases like Polio, TB, and the Measles are far less problematic due to the positive contribution vaccine has made on safeguarding our community. We are very lucky to live in a country which has available the positive effects of modern science. Also most Australians now of childbearing age have not been witness to the effects of these terrible diseases so they haven’t see the positive impact vaccination has had on our lives.

  • Nurses see so many dangerously ill patients as a result of preventable diseases. I know a lass who was born overseas and contracted Polio. She has to wear calipers on her legs to be able to walk at all. What most people don’t know is that later in life polio sufferers suffer other effects from it.

  • What a wonderful post – about time someone stood up and put the anti-vaxxers in their place. Go girl. I am definitely behind what you are saying and agreeing with it wholeheartedly.

  • I think the issue is that it’s not the kids fault that their parents don’t vaccinate them. Whilst I don’t agree with anti vaxxers and don’t want their sick Kids around mine I don’t think they should be punished for their parents ignorance and wrong doing.

  • If any of the anti vaccine brigade were to ever see a little one with the diseases they don’t want their children vaccinated for they might change their mind. The younger generation have never witnessed the diseases so have no clue as to what it is like to not have your lirlttle one able to breathe from diphtheria or to watch the effects of tetanus or polio. Or to try and bring down the fever of a little one suffering mumps, chicken pox or measles. People who are not immunised can so easily infect infants who are not yet old enough to be immunised and also frail aged. Whooping cough is so hard to listen too and be helpless to stop. Smallpox had not been. Threat for a very long time. Would a woman. In earthly stages of pregnancy want to be exposed to rubella and the damage it can inflict upon her unborn baby? TB is still life threatening as well. I cannot imagine not immunising to protect little ones from such suffering. The parents of unvaccinated need to home school and keep their children isolated from the rest of humanity.

  • Iam with the vaccine as it’s not fair for kids to be sick and give it to others

  • Some of these preventable diseases can be illliminated with vaccination programmes but on the other hand I do understand why people are hesitant. Personally I’d rather vaccinate than run the risk.

  • I feel sorry for the children of anti vaxxers who really don’t get a say in what happens to them.

  • The problem is that it isn’t the bat shit crazy anti vaxxers that suffer. Its their innocent children who get sick due to their parents ignorance and its not fair to deny those kids medical attention when they could be very seriously ill. I’d like to see parents of unvaccinated kids slugged a massive extra medicare levy. If they are going to put pressure on the system at least make them pay for it.

  • 100% agree. The anti vaxxers are scarey with the stance they take, affecting not only their lives but their children’s lives and the children who mix with their children. It’s a domino effect….
