On a UK morning show, This Morning, hosts Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes interviewed self described “Off-grid” parents about their parenting techniques when their youngest child wandered off to wee on the studio floor, whilst live on air.

“Off-grid parents” Matt and Adele Allen were being interviewed by hosts about their decision to refuse schooling, refuse vaccinations and traditional medicine and how they also have an extremely relaxed approach in regards to rules for their two children.

The footage has left some viewers reeling with many taking to social media to express disgust at the behaviour of the children and the fact that their child is allowed to pee on the floor.

  • Surely I cannot be the only person who thinks that a 15 month old baby’s actions do not ever need to be defended. Surely SURELY any mum who has had a toddler knows that babies pee themselves. Of all of the things in the world to jump on a judgemental bandwagon about a 15 month old baby peeing on a rug really cannot be the pinnacle of disgrace!!

  • Crikey, sounds like CBF parenting to me!

  • Oh dear, I have no idea this method even exist.
Looks like it’s not effective at all.

  • I think discipline is important to shape them well for the future. If you let them do whatever they want and are way too relaxed well, they may grow up thinking anything goes.

  • People can parent their own children as they see fit, but I’d like to think that manners, respect, and common courtesy fall into any type of parenting. I would have been mortified if my child had done this on TV. There was nothing noble, cute, expressive or free about this. It just looked really bad.

  • I am definitely against their no vaccinations, these save lives and affect not just their children, but other people’s. And who hasn’t had an ‘accident’ whilst toilet training!? But 12 months seems a bit young to even start that. Will get interesting to see what sort of adults these children become

  • I would be so embarrassed if my boys had done that. Why doesn’t the child have a nappy on since they are out in public. I suppose they got paid to be interviewed as well. That money should be used to pay for the sterilising of the couch and the rug. I’m appalled they would let their child behave that way

  • I can absolutely respect and appreciate some different parent styles and ideas ! Don’t think it’s not strange and would love to see more people dare to differ and follow their own ideas. I think there’s too little tolerance when it comes to different idea’s in regards to parenting, schooling, medical interventions, vaccinations etc.

  • If you don’t vaccinate your kids, don’t take them out in public where they may infect babies too young to have their vaccinations. That toddler was left in wet clothes for however long before the interview finished. Maybe the family should live insolation if there is no discipline or the children could well become criminals and spend part of their of their lives in gaol. I wonder if they are even going to be taught right from wrong. I can understand a child living in a remote area being home schooled/ School on the Air, also a special needs child who isn’t capable of settiling and learning anything in a classroom environment. Some then become bored or distressed and disrupt class. The majority of schools don’t have the extra staff to help these children.

  • I think they need to implement some sort or discipline or structure. And surely it can’t be against they’re parenting style to put a nappy on their 1 yr old!

  • Seems odd to me that they would take their child out without a nappy on.
I do hope that the parents were asked to clean it up. They need to be taught that they are responsible for their actions and if they choose to take a child out to someone elses place without a nappy and she pees on the floor then it is their responsibility to clean it up.

    • I agree – parents have a responsibility to intervene, clean up and not sit, smile and watch.

  • I find that there should have been more discipline by the parents in this circumstance. When I say discipline I am not saying punishment, I am saying that they should have taught their child better in the first place and if it still occurs then have a learning experience of how to improve.

  • The parents need help. Clearly they don’t know the child should wear nappy .
    Vaccinations save life’s.
I hope they disinfect the studio
