Hello!

Oh, Kate, what are you doing to us?

Duchess of Cambridge, we absolutely think you are amazing! We admire your poise, your charm, your fashion and your natural mothering ability! But seriously, you’ve literally pushed out your third child (who just happens to be 5th in line to the throne) and you leave the hospital seven hours later looking like a trillion bucks.

Catherine came out of St Mary’s Hospital wearing a striking slim fitting red dress with a white lace collar. Her hair was immaculately blow-waved and her make-up was understatedly perfect. There was only a hint of the baby bump when you looked at her from the side. The Duke of Cambridge looked pretty good himself in a navy blue blazer and open necked shirt.

They were both grinning and joking with the media and it was almost unbelievable that their Royal bub was born just a few hours before.

I Was A Wreck After Child Birth

I remember just after my kids were born, I was wreck! My hair was one big dishevelled bird’s nest, my feet were swollen like tree trunks and I was a hot mess of emotion and sleep deprivation. That oh-so-flattering hospital gown was the only thing I could bear to wear and I certainly wasn’t getting out of bed unless I really had to.

I know Her Royal Highness is a princess but she must have super powers (or a huge retinue of helpers) to transform her into such a vision of perfection within hours of labour. To be honest, I can’t even imagine her breaking a sweat while she was pushing. If I hadn’t seen proof of her baby bump, I wouldn’t have been surprised to hear that the stork had dropped off the new little Royal.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I am overwhelmed with admiration at her lightning-quick recovery but it does make me just an eensy bit jealous and I can’t help feeling bad about how completely opposite my experience was.

I was also crazily protective about my bundle of joy! I wouldn’t let anyone within metres of my bub unless they were vaccinated and germ-free. And yet, William and Kate proudly showed off their precious (and very fresh) newborn to hundreds of world media. I’m sure the reporters were a fair distance away but it still freaks me out.

A Little Part of Us Feels Sorry For You

So yes, we know you’re a princess but you’re also a mum who has just pushed out a little human. When I gave birth, I had a few days to recover. I was in immediate mothering mode, but nobody expected me to primp and pose or even have a shower. I could languish in my bed in my pj’s for as long as I want. But Kate had to get ready for her public appearance within an hour or two of popping out her bub. Imagine squeezing swollen feet into those high-heeled pumps. Ouch! But hey, I guess that’s the life of a Princess! And we hope she’s taking it really easy now at home.

I’m Not The Only One In Awe

I’m glad to see that I’m not the only one who is in awe of the Royal power couple:

The comments on the Royal Family facebook page were overwhelmingly positive mixed in with a good dose of disbelief:

Congratulations to the Royal Family. We curtsey to you and can’t wait to find out your son’s name.

  • Her hospital room would have been very comfortable and not like the beds we have.
She would have had the best products for her hair and skin and imagine how much that dress cost…..of course she looks amazing.
No way does she put me to shame or any other mother ….we all do our best.

  • I am in awe of Kate for her commitments to protocol, especially after giving birth to a larger than average baby as well. If you look closely though, her eyes do tell the signs of the ordeal and also the Duke looks a little tired in the eyes. Lets not forget that she would have a Maid in Waiting and be pampered with the best of everything. In saying this I am not taking anything away from her, but the fact that she is expected to do this, I take my hat off to her.

  • Everyone is obviously different post-birth and I felt for Kate and the pressure to do the right thing for the people and crowds. Based on security issues, I’m sure she’s better at home where she will have a full medical team to support her.

  • She looks amazing! Good on her for fronting the world so soon after the birth.

  • She looks amazing and will probably get more rest and privacy at home.

  • in England they all go home fast if in fact they use a hospital, she has a team of people to help her look incredible when she may be feeling like crap, her stylist was one of the first people to get there.

  • She does look stunning and it’s amazing that she went home so soon. Just remember though, she has help unlike us mere mortals. She most likely has a stylist, access to beautiful designer clothes, the best make up and hair products. When she gets home she has a nanny to help and doesn’t have to worry about housework and cleaning.

    • I agree 100%.
All my best wishes go out to them though.

I was not allowed to leave the hospital the same day, but certainly jumped directly out of bed when I could.

  • She is looking absolutely fabulous .Mind you , she has plenty of helpers.

  • She has done as her job demands, with help from others to get ready. I was told get dress and do not linger around helps you get back to what you were. I am quite sure when she got home the nanny took over and her feet went up. Most new mums do not have the help she has at home.
