Outrage after a video has emerged on Facebook of a 10-year-old boy getting a tattoo.

Last week we shared the video, posted by Storm Harringto, showing the young boy receiving a tattoo.

“Wth is this,” Harrington wrote in the Facebook post, tagging two unknown women. “How old is Skylar, 9? He is not old enough to know what he wants or to make any kind of decision like this. You truly are a worthless parent for this.!!!”

In the video, the woman encourages the boy not to look while he is being tattooed. At some points, he appears to be visibly wincing.

Facebook users expressed their outrage in the comments. Many alerted the authorities.

“This sh-t is illegal,” one person wrote.

“Disgusted!!!” and “That’s not right,” said others.

Ohio police investigated the incident after they were prompted by a number of concerned citizens.

They visited the home of the mother and child on Monday night but say the child did not appear to be in distress.

“The child had actually said he asked for the tattoo,” Lt. Rick Herring of Bellefontaine Police told ABC6.

Ohio law states that tattoos under the age of 18 are allowed if the child is given consent from a parent.

“The phones have not stopped ringing,” Herring said.

“We’ve gotten calls from several different states from people that are concerned for the welfare of this child.”

Police are not yet sure whether they will press charges.

The video has attracted over 1 million views on Facebook and 14,000 shares.

UPDATE 3 October

The Ohio mother who allowed her 10-year-old son to get a tattoo and filmed it for a distressing video which went viral on social media last week has since been arrested, according to Daily Mail.

Nikki Dickinson, 34, was arrested in Bellefontaine, Ohio, and taken into custody on Friday on charges of child endangering and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Ms Dickinson told police on Friday that the young boy had been pleading with her to get a tattoo and she gave into him because she was ‘tired’ of him constantly asking for one.

The mother was not charged for letting the boy get a tattoo but for the manner in which she allowed it to take place.

The teenage tattoo artist was charged with not following safety and sanitary guidelines.

He was charged with two delinquency counts of tattooing prohibitions. He is being charged as a minor.

The other woman in the video did not face charges.

  • I am confused what law was broken when is says under 18 with parental consent. While I disagree with this and his age to have a tattoo, if that is the law in America what “manner in which she allowed it to take place” then becomes a crime? Strange

  • This is just insane. You have no idea about what your child wants. They want FADS!

  • Bit of a worry. I’m concerned about the parents, are they capable of being parents if they can make decisions like this?!

  • This would be illegal at his age even with parent consent?

  • My son is begging me for his own front end loader. He can nag all day and night. The answer is still no. If you can’t say no to your children you really need to think about whether parenting is for you.

  • Such a stupid thing to do even in this age of letting everything happen.

  • Just goes to show that some people don’t grow brains with age! Totally irresponsible!

  • what is the world coming to?!

  • Seriously! He asked for it therefore it’s not illegal because he had his mums permission?! The world has gone mad. This child shouldn’t be allowed to stay with this unfit mother!!!!

  • He asked for a tattoo?! Kids will ask for a lot of things…does that mean that they should get them?! I’m gobsmacked! Appalling!!

  • Not sure I would have let my 9yo get a tattoo. Both my kids now have tattoos tho, gotten as adults

  • If he wanted a tattoo then get him some rub off ones!!!
Did he actually ask for it or is that what he’s being told to say

  • Children should not be allowed to get tattoo, what are parents thinking!! This is in America where it seems anything goes.My concern is that it could happen over here as we seem to follow America in many of there ways.. I see beautiful young girls, all covered with tattoos it is more than aweful thing to do, you have to wear them for life, or have to have expensive surgery to remove them. It is beyond my comprehension, have stick on ones if you want to mar your body, looks and life.

  • While I certainly won’t agree on a tattoo for my kids myself, I wonder if there is much difference with getting an ear piercing done ?? Even babies of a couple of months old get sometimes an ear piercing. And what about indigenous all over the world ? Piercings and tattoo’s are very common amongst them.
