Paedophile dance teacher Grant Davies has been sentenced to a maximum of 24 years in jail over his abuse of students.

The 41-year-old will serve at least 18 years of his sentence behind bars and will be eligible for parole in 2034, reports 9 news.

He was caught last May and charged with a string of offences on nine victims aged between nine and 15, including sexual intercourse with a child and using children to make pornography.

For more than a decade Davies groomed his victims through persistent texting with sexually-charged requests.

Davies, who was a director of inner-west dance RG Dance studio, last year pleaded guilty to 28 charges relating to child sex offences over 13 years.

Young women held hands in the public gallery as the sentence was handed down in the Downing Centre District Court on Friday.

Judge Jennie Girdham said Davies’ offending against nine victims was “predatory and persistent”.

She sentenced him to a maximum of 24 years.

Justice served? Or should it be harsher punishment?

  • I don’t think any sentence would be long enough for the crimes committed. These people cannot be rehabilitated. A lifetime behind bars is probably the safest place for this man to be so he cannot hurt anybody else; afterall the victims have been given a life sentence because of his vile abuse.

  • triple it with no reduction in sentence – creep has destroyed countless lives

  • Just disgusting! I hope he gets what he deserves in prison

  • No sentence is long enough for what he did in my opinion, unless it’s really life-long until the day he dies.

  • I’m sure he’ll get his just desserts in jail. Not that I condone that, but if it was my daughter I’d want to rip his throat out.

  • Unbelievable that he was able to molest these children for so long.

  • 28 Charges. There was probably a lot more acts that he’s not being charged for. He could get a MININUM of at least 1 year for each charge, no early release for parole good behaviour, compassionate grounds or home detention.

  • The poor children that suffered the abuse will need so much help to recover from their trauma. Their recovery will be life long and so should sentences for these crimes.

  • For what he did, I don’t think a maximum of 24 years (that probably will be just 18) is enough. :-(

  • Disgusting, I wish they could have given him a longer sentence, poor girls!

  • Glad he is being punished – how sick and twisted is he – those poor girls that were subjected to his horrible treatment – I wish them all lots of strength for the future.

I’m not sure 24 years is long enough of a punishment though – but maybe he will meet with Karma in prison!
