A grieving family are demanding answers after their toddler died on the same day he allegedly fell at a NZ pre-school.

Little Lorenzo Miranda was 20 months old when he died in the arms of his parents.

Father Ricardo told Native Affairs television he wasn’t told about the fall when they picked him up at the pre-school.

‘Nobody told me anything when I went to pick him up, so we had no clue,’ he told the network.

‘We were just handed over a baby that had a brain bleed and we didn’t know.

‘They just kind of expect us to swallow it and bury it and it’s not what we are going to do.’

Mr Miranda is now desperate for answers after burying his son five months ago after he died in hospital the day of the alleged fall, shares Daily Mail.

‘One of the hardest things as well is I held him when he came into the world, and I also held him when he left the world…it’s not really something you want to do as a parent,’ he said.

A report from the Department stated a fall was not witnessed by staff and therefore no record was completed.

‘The documentation and information received from staff who were working on the day in question state there was no specific incident witnessed and therefore no record was completed,’ the report said.

Lorenzo was seen lying on his back beside a large table at about 2.30pm crying and was then picked up and cuddled for 2-3 minutes, according to the report.

Our thoughts are with Lorenzo’s family. We hope they get the answers they deserve. x

  • Hard thing for the parents to have to deal with, but accidents do happen and because it is an accident then no one is at fault.

  • To be honest, it doesn’t seem to be anyone’s fault. No one saw him fall, so no one knew anything could be wrong with him. So very sad

On the moment Lorenzo was seen lying on his back beside a large table at about 2.30pm crying, the staff of the child care centre should have investigated what happened !!

  • Terrible for his family. When the father to pick up the child, they should have told him about the fall. Actually they should have called the parents when it happened. Maybe things would have ended up in a different way. :-(

  • This is so heartbreaking. I can only think that this young child fell at the pre-school and no-one witnessed him hit his head. So very sad.
