Parents urged to “rise up” against the insidious forces of political correctness after words changed in popular Christmas carol.

Federal MP Peter Dutton has called on parents to “rise up” against the insidious forces of political correctness after learning a Brisbane state school’s end-of-year celebrations changed the words to a popular Christmas carol, reports 7 news.

Mr Dutton responded after hearing a Sydney radio talkback caller report the words of We Wish You a Merry Christmas were changed to “We Wish You a Happy Holiday” at the end-of-year concert.

“It’s gone too far…. People have had a gutful of it and I think we’re back to the same stage now and I think we need to rise up against it,” Mr Dutton told 2GB.

With other stories this year of Primary schools banning students from including candy canes and similar treats with their Christmas cards.

call to ban reindeers at Christmas festivities. A warning to parents to STOP lying to kids about Santa and Christmas, and then there was the new policy regarding gifts for teachers this year.

Christmas is really not the same anymore.

Do you think schools should change songs to cater for other children or should they be left as they are?

  • Australia is a Christian based Country. We celebrate Christmas and Easter here. I dont see why we should change our traditions when we are clearly told (and quite rightly) that we need to be accepting of other religions. We are told to be respectful of their traditions and beliefs. Its needs to work both ways.

  • Why do people want to change everything that has made us into the country we are today, this includes traditions from many lands that families have and celebrate in whatever way is unique and right for them. For those who don’t agree with freedom, please don’t choose this country to come to and then try and force your sanitised generic ‘everyone has to fit into the same mould’ mentality. It is our wonderful differences that Australia allows us all to celebrate, to just be ourselves without the threat of having to change our traditions to placate a bigoted minority. Shut up and leave our Christmas carols alone, we don’t try to stop you singing songs of celebration or just plain fun. They should be left as they are, part of a harmless and fun tradition to be enjoyed.

  • It’s ridiculous, bending over backwards to make the minority fit in. I definitely won’t be following the political correctness route

  • WHY do some individuals want to change traditions in Australia, people who come to live here,do so,because they like our way of life & freedom. Do Australians travel overseas (whether on holidays or to live) ask for their Country traditions to be changed? Of course not,we respect their ways,so over the ‘political correctness’ B.S. If individuals that come here decide our ways are not for them, stay the heck out! :(

  • They should definitely left as they are. Why should we change for people from other countries? They certainly are willing to live here but want to do it on their terms. The government should be working for Australia not for the refugees. We never used to have this problem

  • They should be left as they are. If you don’t like the songs, leave.

  • Its a bit like when workplaces change Staff Christmas Party to End of Year Celebrations. Is it now the celebration that we dont speak of? Poor Santa will be going underground rather than back to the North Pole!

  • No way. I stand by my traditions and will be celebrating all things Christmas. I’ve heard many parents complaining of going to their child’s school concert to not hear one Christmas song. Ridiculous. Merry Christmas everyone!

  • Keep it traditional – in becoming “politically correct” we usually end up offending someone else!

  • One thing that annoys me is that male and females are both called actors if that is their profession.

  • I’m not bothered by the word change, it really has no effect on my life at all. Having said that I also don’t trust a word Peter Dutton says and saw an article today claiming he has his facts wrong and should have checked before singling out this school incorrectly.

  • I don’t mind if it’s an occasional thing – words are often changed fr different reasons, including jokes. But I do agree there’s no problem with keeping “Christmas” in carols.

  • fso over it! Write a whole new song if you have a problem with it!

  • No they shouldn’t, goes to far for me.

  • Most of those who have migrated here don’t want Australians to change, they came here to be in a better country and if we change then their hardships suffered to get here are a waste of their time and energy. It is the PC police who think they are doing the right thing by organising these changes and most of the PC police are unfortunately teaching our children in our schools. Schools should be a place of education and learning, not of ideologies that may or may not be wanted by others. As that detective once said “Just give me the facts, ma’am, just the bare facts. Then I’ll make up my mind”
