NZ Olympic shot putter Dame Valerie Adams shared a photo with her six-month-old daughter Kimoana, and people started freaking out.

The innocent photograph shows the 33-year-old mother and her daughter standing on the balcony of a high-rise building with oceanfront views.

‘Happy six months my baby girl. I love you more then you’ll ever know. Our journey so far has been incredibly amazing but tough,’ she wrote in the caption alongside the image on Facebook.

‘Today we are in the Gold Coast for mummy’s 5th Commonwealth Games. Thank you for the inspiration.’

But the photo left some fans anxious, shares Daily Mail.

Some fans said they were feeling anxious by how close Adams was standing to the hotel railing.

‘This woman is so inspirational and I hope she wins something today but that balustrade is freaking me out. Looks so low but I am guessing that Val is just so tall,’ one wrote.

One said: ‘This gives me anxiety that you’re standing so close to the rail and you’re so high up.’

One wrote: ‘That height is scaring me!’

And another said: ‘Can you move to the right a little more, you’re making me nervous.’

‘Bit close to the edge with bubs #michaeljackson,’ another person said.

Earlier this year a Footy star shared a touching photo of new baby son but fans were quickly outraged by the seemingly harmless image. Read more on that here.

  • Not like she is standing on a chair and could easily fall and she is not dangling the baby over the edge.

  • Gorgeous picture! The rest need to take a chill pill, the baby looks very happy and securely held.

  • The baby is being held and looked after, that’s the most important thing.

  • I couldn’t stand where she is standing as I hate heights, but if she is happy why should others call her out? To each their own is my motto.

  • They looked gorgeous and her girl in a matching outfit is perfect. I just can’t stand the sight behind her as I have a terrible fear of heights. One rung on the ladder is enough for me.

  • If a shot putter isn’t strong enough to hang on to a 6 month old then the rest of us are screwed.

  • Really? She clearly has a firm hold on the baby – how is there anything wrong with this? I have stood on the edge of cliffs for pictures holding my kids before. So long as you’re careful there is no cause for concern.

  • Seriously? You don’t get to judge this photo. There is nothing wrong with it. A mother recording a photo of her baby. A strong, athletic, loving and protective mother. If you have anxiety from looking at it, look away or don’t look.

    • The funny thing is….all I see when I look at this photo is absolute joy! Maybe it does depend on perspective and how as a person things are viewed. I look on the positives and do not look for the negatives. I look at this image and see a proud woman and mother and joyous baby.

  • This photo does not make me nervous – I have complete faith that a strong athletic woman can hold a baby! Her grip with both hands – one on arm and one around leg looks secure to me. One happy bub and mum.

  • I’m sure there was no danger whatsoever, but I do wish balcony railings were higher!

  • I can imagine that when you are a bit afraid for heights, this rail can freak you. Personally I think it’s a lovely photo and baby seems happy & safe to me.

  • I couldn’t, stand on the balcony without getting jelly legs let alone hold a baby but it could just be the angle the photo was taken on. The photographer was obviously trying to capture part of the view which is not perfect. It was most likely the best shot without being dangerous but it makes my legs wobble just looking at it.

  • She looks like she has a good grip on the baby and she isn’t holding her over the edge or anything. I don’t think it’s a big issue, I’m sure the baby was very safe in her arms.

  • It makes me nervous in that I wish balcony railings were a bit higher!! I’m sure her bub wasn’t in any danger.

  • I’m sure the baby was safe. Some people are scared of heights, others aren’t. It’s hard when you have to analyze everything to ensure you’re not giving someone a reason to criticize you.
