Police investigate dad after woman posted photos to Facebook of him dragging his daughter around a supermarket by her hair.

Erika Burch and her husband Robert were in a Walmart in Cleveland, Texas when she saw a little girl crying.

Photos snapped by Mrs Burch and shared to Facebook show the girl’s father had wrapped her hair around the handle of the shopping trolley and was pulling her along.

According to Mrs Burch, the girl was saying: “Please stop. I promise I won’t do it again. Please stop!”

Mrs Burch said she told the man to let go of the girl’s hair, but he told her to stop interfering and that he’d “grown up just fine”.

That’s when Mrs Burch called the police.

Police arrived on the scene but said they were unable to do anything because the child was not injured.

Cleveland Police said in a statement the case was being investigated by its department and child protective services.

“The Cleveland Police Department has received numerous calls in regards to a child having her hair pulled last night at Cleveland Wal-Mart. We want to ensure the community this case is currently being investigated,” the statement said.

Mrs Burch’s post has been shared more than 80,000 times.

“People are telling me I’m wrong for stepping up for this little girl, but you can discipline a child without dragging them by the hair on their head, especially in Walmart,” Mrs Burch told KTRK.

Erika added, “People this is what’s wrong with this world today!  Nobody stands up for anyone, not even children!! Now this baby had to go home with this monster thinking that nobody cared about her and it’s OK for this animal to pull her by the hair of her head!!!! She continues, I’m attaching pictures. If you care about children and child abuse stop and share. This is beyond wrong and something needs to be done about it.”

Erika said police told her that the father had a right to discipline his children.

  • He can get away with it because he didn’t smack her. I don’t know what the world is coming to when you can drag a child around by her hair and the police can’t do anything but smack them and all hell breaks loose.

    • This case is in USA. I guess we will never hear the outcome of this case.
In Aust. it would definitely be child abuse.

  • We do need to step up for our children. At least an awareness has been created now and this man may think twice about what he has done. Concerning is what he might do when he’s not in public. At least if the Police are aware, they can keep an eye out.

  • Sad that the police officer said nothing could be done as no physical injuries, what about the psychological injuries this would cause.

    • Exactly the psychological injuries and the impact may last for years and years.

  • Horrifying – no child should endure this as so called discipline.

  • Some people should never be parents.

  • I think the media increase the kid’s suffering by posting the photo and sharing it all over the Internet. The trauma of the incident will be prolonged and compounded by the fact she will still be seeing these photos for years to come.

    • VERY GOOD POINT; It’s out there and out there to stay.
