A search is underway for a mother and her young son missing.

The couple are from Cranbourne, in Melbourne’s south-east, and have been missing since Thursday.

Allyson Monti, 34, and her four-year-old son Dakota Johns were last seen by family on the afternoon of September 8.

Police are particularly concerned for their wellbeing because Ms Monti has a medical condition.

The mother and son are often in the Cranbourne, Gippsland, Bairnsdale and Traralgon areas.

Ms Monti is described as Caucasian and about 170cm tall, with a medium build and long blonde hair.

Her son Dakota is about 90cm tall with a slim build, glasses and short blond hair.
