Child protection officers admit they are struggling to fight the battle against paedophiles with international child pornography rings targeting underage online gamers.

Queensland Police taskforce ARGOS is dedicated to the investigation of child exploitation, and is constantly screening victim footage, shares Daily Mail.

The Victim Identification Unit within the force is consistently inundated with footage shared worldwide with organised crime groups and paedophile organisations.

‘The problem is becoming, dare I say it, an epidemic,’ detective inspector Jon Rouse of Queensland Police said.

‘I have seen things and I have heard things that cannot be unseen or unheard.’

The war on crime is constantly having to adapt to trends and inventive new ways of reaching victims, and that is no different when it comes to addressing paedophiles.

Abusers have been using modern tactics of befriending child victims on online platforms, apps and games, before leading them away from the apps and to live streaming and video sharing platforms.

These people often pose as children and allies themselves.

While the taskforce are consistently making an effort to shut down any apps or platforms that may pose a threat, an overwhelming amount of new ones crop up in their place.

The extent to which the unit can provide effective security and reassurance is continuously negatively impacted, as an increasing number of offenders are resorting to new medias to attract and lure young, unassuming victims.

He also warned parents to take more responsibility of their children’s online presence, monitoring apps that appear innocent and just generally being aware of what their children is doing online.

Parents are urged to educate themselves and their children early, and save the process of damage control down the track.

  • So many scary things online for the young kids, who are vulnerable and susceptible.

  • This does not surprise me in the slightest. The police would be losing a lot of war on crime. It’s just so prevalent and the internet only assists the bad guys

  • At a lot of schools pupils use computers during their lessons – it is often compulsory. Do teachers ever check them?? In such cases it is not only the parents/guardians who need to be vigilant.

  • Parents need to super vigilant and monitor online time and sites. There need to be severe penalties for the vile creatures that are involved in this type of abhorrent crime. I am happy for tax payer dollars to be spent in this area to combat this – the protection of children is a top priority.

  • I am not amazed about this – everyone is so ‘busy’ on their own devices they have no time to teach their children to beware and be careful. I pity the poor police.

  • it is so sad that kids cant innocently play a game with out the fear of some sick person.

  • I can’t believe we have to warn young children about such dangers, but unfortunately we do. Children are having to grow up way too fast.

  • We live in a sick sick world ! Scary and dangerous, this evil always looming around. It’s sad we have to make our kids aware of this to protect them.

  • Why are there so many evil perverts out there? I hate them for hurting our children.

  • It’s frightening that there are so many predators.

    • It is frightening but we just have to protect our children.

  • This makes my heart bleed! As parents we need to educate children on the dangers of talking to people on the internet and also keep an eye on children. Having the computer / iPad / gaming console in a shared family space is a good way to combat this.
