POLICE are investigating an incident in which a student claims he was raped by another student in the toilets of his high school.

The Department of Education is also investigating the incident, which has left the young victim suicidal.

The father of the Queensland boy who was allegedly raped in a high school toilet block by a Year 12 student says his son has been left traumatised and is now suicidal.

The alleged assault occurred at a Rockhampton high school in July.

“He was followed into the toilet, made to pull his pants down and [was] raped,” the boy’s father told The Courier Mail

“Now we’re having to do medical tests and shipping him in and out of hospital because he is bleeding from the bowel and having flashbacks when he goes back to school – but we need to have tests done for the legal side of things as well,” he said

It is believed the Year 12 student has been suspended.

The boy’s father said his son is now suicidal, and the family is struggling to cope.

“The kid has tried to kill himself twice in the last 14 days,” he said. “We’re at a loss as to what else we can do.

“This R U OK day was all over the television last week but no one has asked my son if he’s OK after what’s happened to him – he’s going through hell at the moment.”

No charges have yet been laid, and the family is now exploring its legal options.

Police investigations are ongoing, and a spokesman for the Department of Education told News Corp appropriate disciplinary action had been taken.

Sadly, this is not an isolated incident.  We reported recently on two, YES TWO,  similar stories. An intellectually disabled 6 year old primary school girl who was lured into the school toilets and abused by two male students while two others stood guard! And two 12-year-old boys have been charged with raping a 6-year-old girl at a school.

Protecting children from sexual abuse via ACT government

Some great tips to teach our children to be aware and stay safe include,
Make time to talk
Talk about what being safe means and what it feels like
Teach children that their body is theirs
Help your child to make a list of adults they feel safe with

Have clear boundaries for personal privacy in your home so that children learn this is a normal part of life.

This includes:
•respecting a child’s ‘no’ to being touched
•not making them kiss someone if they don’t want to. They might want to shake hands instead
•giving them privacy in the toilet or shower as long as it’s safe.

Safety in public places

Teach children to avoid risks away from home, including:
•not going off alone
•being alert to what’s going on around them
•running to where you are, or to a group of people, if a stranger approaches them.

If they walk to school, make sure they:
•always walk with others
•keep close to fences and away from the road
•go into the nearest shop or front yard of a house if they are scared. If really scared, knock on the door and ask the person to call home but don’t go inside.

Do we need to push for toilet monitors, or a buddy system in schools? What else can we do to prevent this continuously occurring?

  • Sometimes I wonder if our children are taught too much too early. Homosexuallity is not an excuse for a teenager to force themselves onto anybody else, certainly not a child as young as that. The 6 year old just wants the horrid event to go away. It must be one continuous nightmare. Even with years of intense counselling this victim may never fully recover and no doubt his parents are having their own problems coping with this.

  • horrific, that poor child and his lifetime of nightmares

  • This is very distressing, I am so sad for that boy.

  • This is disgusting. You send them to school thinking they will be safe. Sounds more like homeschooling would be safer. What is this world coming to when it’s kids that are doing these horrid things to other kids.

  • This is absolutely horrible, terrible, tragic, and so sad for the victim. You would expect at secondary school that monitors are not required, but maybe it’s time for CCTV. This is happening way too often. Once is too often. This family and student need so much love and support. The perpetrator needs serious help and consequences too.

  • This is utterly horrifying and every prayer for this young boy and may he get every support available to him for recovery and for the future in coping with this horror. Many years ago there were toilet monitors for public toilets and maybe this needs to come back and also be implemented in schools?

  • What is happening to the youth of today that they see fit to degrade and rape another a child? I just don’t understand this world at the moment. So sorry for the 12 year old and hope that the doctors can help him and that his suicidal attempts stop. Sorry for the family trying to cope with this horrible thing too.

  • I have started to teach my eldest how to call 000 and what to say.

    • It is good to teach children how to do this at a young age – good on you.

  • My heart is going out to the victim and his family. Hope and pray he’ll recover from this trauma and gets all the help he needs.
And in a way my heart is also going out to the boy who raped him and his family. What drove this boy to this this ? Clearly this boy is not doing well ! How difficult it must be for his parents when their child has committed this crime. Hope this boy and his parents get help as well.

  • :-( I am without words. How can this happen? How can this young boy ever recover from such a tremendous experience? :-(

  • This is disgusting. How are we meant to send our children to school when its not safe there! My daughter is starting prep next year and with all the stories like this its making me not want to send her. I hope the boy and family are able to recover as much as possible from this incident and I hope the person who did this wont get a slap on the wrist like he did from the school.

  • oh no this is the third case like this I have read …
Also I am sorry to sound rude but what would the above tips do to help this poor boy…he was going to use the toilet at school for pete’s sake …one would assume this is a normal and safe practice but sadly even this natural act of excreting ones waste has become a danger.
I am lost as to an answer for this ..perhaps teacher monitors, camera’s ..I don’t know but something has to be done and done fast .
Please fight to survive my boy your life is precious, your family loves you and so does many other Australians.
Praying for you and your family and sending much love.

  • Our children are exposed to way too much on tv, video games, magazines and even billboards and adults talking around them. They know too much at early ages and its just too much.
How do we protect our children when they are at school? This is happening more and more.

  • All well and good to tell kids how to keep themselves safe, what about teaching kids not to rape? Teaching them it’s not ok to force yourself onto another. These conversations need to take place just as much, if not more. And monitor what the kids are watching.

  • This is the third story I have read of this type and as parent I want to protect my children but seems they aren’t safe at school now?!
