A stage adaptation of the classic Aussie children’s story, Possum Magic, is about to open at the Sydney Opera House!

It’s a story that has been told to Aussie children for more than thirty years, and now Mem Fox’s timeless book Possum Magic is being brought to life on the stage. Opening at the Sydney Opera House in just over a week, another generation is set to be mesmerised by Hush, Grandma Poss and their magical tale.

A Family Affair

This show is definitely one for all the family, with the fifty-minute performance catering to children as young as three, and parents guaranteed to feel a little nostalgic as they revisit a childhood classic. Audiences will follow the journey of young possum Hush, made invisible by her grandmother’s magic to protect her from a snake, now unable to return to being visible as her grandmother cannot remember the spell. Hush and Grandma Poss set about searching for the special food they believe will reverse the invisibility and travel across Australia in their quest to find it. This story is one that tugs at the heartstrings, even three decades later!

Last Chance

Even though tickets for the event went on sale last November, there are still limited seats available for the performances, which run two to three times a day from Monday 15th April to Sunday 28th April. There are also designated ‘relaxed performances’  and audio described performances allowing families to choose the ideal session for them. Tickets start from just $29, and we think this is incredible value for a once in a lifetime chance to see this beautiful story in a whole new way – and what a unique and memorable Easter gift idea!

  • As a Teacher of children aged 5-8 years of age, I share ‘ Possum Magic ‘ with every class I am blessed with. It never fails to win hearts and make children shine. Men Fox was one of the Educators during my Teacher training and she touched many future Teachers and continues to enrich the world. I have a great love of Australian Wildlife, so I collated a teaching resource partly inspired by Possum Magic. I met a child in UK learning to read English and introduced her to Possum Magic – she sought out all her books. Thank goodness Grandma Poss made Hush visible so everyone could enjoy this beautiful tale !

  • Mum read this to me as a kid and now I read it to my girls. Can’t believe it’s 30 years old but considering I am 39 this year then of course it must be. Would certainly be worth seeing.
