A female primary school teacher is accused of assaulting multiple children at a primary school in Sydney’s southwest.

She has been charged over the alleged assault of six children as young as eight.

The 57-year-old woman was arrested at a home in Yagoona, in Sydney’s south-west, about 6.30pm on Monday.

Earlier that day detectives from the Bankstown Police Area Command were called to a primary school in the area.

They spoke with a number of children aged eight to ten years-old and interviewed members of staff before attending the Yagoona home.

The teacher was taken to Bankstown Police Station and charged with six counts of common assault.

She was granted conditional bail and is due to face Bankstown Local Court on Wednesday June 20.

A NSW Department of Education spokesperson told Daily Mail, “This person will not be teaching at schools pending the outcome of the matter.”

  • Wow! I think back to my school days and the cane was a regular happening in primary school. I also remember chalk and chalkboard dusters as well as pens being thrown at students. We wouldn’t have had many teachers left if they were all charged for assault

  • I’m guessing that most likely isn’t any photographic proof of bruises or anything.
What a pity. It would have made the allegations that much easier to prove and easier for the children rather than the possiblity of them having to appear in court. Hopefully the court will accept statements signed by the children.

  • It’s just unbelievable that this happens in schools in this day and age. There’s so much scrutiny involved with these job positions, and still try sneak through

  • It’s good they believed the children.

  • Geez! What was she thinking?! So glad the kids who complained were taken seriously.

  • Good on the children for speaking up and glad their stories were heard.
A teacher should feel her/himself when crossing a line and seek another job. Teaching our young children comes with many high responsibilities.

  • Good on the kids for speaking out. Terrible woman!

  • Luckily that the children spoke out. Sometimes they are so afraid that they don’t dare to say a single word.

  • That’s concerning to have a teacher in charge assault so many young children. At least the police are now involved and hopefully justice is served.

  • That’s terrible! Having been a Primary Teacher and a Teacher’s Aide myself I am well aware that there are teachers who carry on teaching for far too long. If you don’t love it or the kids, get out!
