Hello!

Royal fans rejoice – Prince William and Catherine are making plans to visit Australia in a bid to support bushfire-ravaged towns.

Discussions have been taking place between the Morrison government and Kensington Palace, which is the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s official household and an official invitation is expected to be extended to the Royal couple this week.

Prince William and Kate have been open in communicating their concern about the destruction and loss caused by the recent bushfires and expressed a desire to visit the affected areas.

The couple will most likely pay a visit to both New South Wales and Victoria. However their itinerary has not yet been finalised and other states may also be on the agenda, as reported by SMH.

The trip will be the Prince’s fifth visit to Australia and the couple’s first since 2014. During their last tour of Australia, the Duke and Duchess visited Winmalee, a New South Wales town where fire had destroyed 195 homes a few months earlier.

Kensington Palace has declined to comment but an announcement is expected very soon as long as there are no last-minute changes to their schedule.

Good News

The Royal tour may have the knock-on effect of attracting even more international donations for the recovery effort.

It is unclear whether the couple’s three kids, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, will be accompanying their parents.

Shock!

William and Catherine, the Queen and Prince Philip, and Prince Harry and Meghan, all issued separate statements in the beginning of the year expressing shock at the death and destruction in Australia.

The statement from Kensington Palace read: “We continue to be shocked and deeply saddened to hear about the wild fires that are destroying homes, livelihoods and wildlife across much of Australia.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all the people and communities who are affected by this devastating event”.

  • Did this ever happen? So much has gone on that I can’t remember.

  • I’m thinking this visit has been put on hold indefinitely with the covid19 virus currently doing the rounds. I wouldn’t go out of my way to see them, but I do enjoy seeing the news and photos of them. Will be a big trip if they bring all three kids

  • Lovely to see but the money it is going to cost us could be better used

  • Doesn’t make a difference to me

  • It would be a wonderful gesture on their part. I’m sure many of the people affected by the bushfires would appreciate their presence.

  • I just wonder how much it will “cost” the Australian Government to have them here. I think the money would be better spent on the affected areas directly instead. Sorry but unless they are going to foot the bill themselves for their visit here, I just think it is a waste of time.

  • I hope their visit will raise more global awareness of our crisis and always rejuvenate our flagging tourism aspect.

  • They don’t interest me at all.

  • I really don’t care about the royals. They really aren’t that relevant to us here in Australia. They don’t seem to do a lot to help us either.

  • I think it’s lovely that they’re taking the time to visit. And I hope it brings some joy to the people in those areas they’re visiting. Simple as that. We don’t need to put pressure on or analyse it any further.

  • It might help outsiders see that we need help to rebuild

    Reply

  • I think it will help with morale, and it is good for them to see the devastation, it may lead to more funding for rebuilding

    Reply

  • I don’t really care either way, but I’m not sure it will help much.

  • If it’s good for the economy and actually helps the locals and town then it’s all good.
