Studies show that having a nagging mum actually makes women more successful. True story!

The 2015 study from The University of Essex studied 15,500 girls aged between 13 and 14 for a period of seven years.

The study found that girls with mothers who had high expectations of their behaviour were more likely to attend university, earn a high salary and end up in stable relationships.

Ericka Rascon-Ramirez, a researcher in the study, told the Daily Mail that parenting styles end up influencing children’s choices long term.

“In many cases we succeeded in doing what we believed was more convenient for us, even when this was against our parents’ will. But no matter how hard we tried to avoid our parents’ recommendations, it is likely that they ended up influencing, in a more subtle manner, choices that we had considered extremely personal,” she said.

You know what made me feel good out of all this? I mentioned to my teenage son that apparently nagging pays off and he just shrugged and said well you don’t actually nag me that much. WINNING!

It’s the little things lol

Do you find yourself nagging the kids very often?

  • High expectations and nagging seem like two very different things.

  • Nagging is ok if it is done constructively. It depends on the age of the child the method you use. Some parents forget that little ones need to be shown how to do a thing a few times – not just once – they don’t have the ability to learn as fact as older children do. With an older child pre-teens you need to show them more than once if it isn’t as simple as you think it might be for them. You show a 10 or less how to do something and expect them to do it alone a month later. especially if you didn’t make the time for them to be able to let you do it completely. I know parents who do that a lot., then do it differently the next time. It confuses the kids and they don’t know which way to do it them. Then one parent takes the attitude of ‘do what I say not as I do’ One of them yells at the kids all the time, often doesn’t say the kid’s name first and wonders why the things aren’t done

  • I guess this would depend on the relationship between the mother and kids, whether closer or terrifying (some parents can be scary and angry with their nagging, which could either make a person obey or rebel). Some people are more prone to following rules than others who are determined to do their own thing.

  • Nothing wrong with having certain expectations.
Repeating what you’ve asked till they listen is ok.
    But nagging ?

  • It probably more so comes down to repetition, we need to remember things that are repeated over and over.
