Parents have been criticised for their inappropriately aggressive behaviour during a nationwide Woolworths collectables swap event.

The supermarket’s Swap Day for collectors of its The Lion King Ooshies drew chaotic crowds on Saturday between 10am and 2pm.

Not everyone was impressed with their experience though, many taking to social media to slam pushy and greedy parents in scathing posts to Facebook.

One woman “risked the craziness” to take two young children to the event, but was left “pretty disappointed” after being “barged” by an inconsiderate parent.

The shopper said after being struck by the brash collector, she had to leave the store due to the additional pain caused to her prolapsed spine discs.

“That woman barging me suddenly was pretty devastating in terms of my pain levels so I had to leave and didn’t end up getting the last one I needed,” she wrote.

The lady explained how she watched parents being rude to children, telling them to “go away” for not having the Ooshies they wanted.

“Pretty disgusting that the children showed better manners than literal adults.”

Another attendee shared a similar experience, recalling how even parents with plenty of “doubles” refused to swap anything, even with children.

Someone else shared how she and her 1-year-old were completing a grocery shop when a woman snatched an Ooshie from her son’s hand.

“I turned my back to grab something off the shelf and turned back to see a grown woman grab it off him! She played it off that he had dropped it but was red with embarrassment and practically sprinted away,” she wrote in a comment.

Another person said: “I went to the plaza with a container full of spares and they were like piranhas, I was surrounded in seconds”.

Last week, two farmers from Victoria suffered nasty criticism after taking to Facebook trying to exchange their rare furry Simba Ooshie for water. They decided to destroy the collectable to send a message to all nasty online trolls. Read more here.

  • What is wrong with people? I really dont understand some of the things that some people feel are that important that they forget to act like a normal human being.

  • Absolutely ridiculous. Something created ultimately for kids to enjoy, and the adults in their lives ruin it all

  • They need 2 swaps: a competitive and a friendly swap – sounds like a lot of lovely people were trying to swap but there were some unfortunate attitudes making it difficult

  • I went to one and it was so unorganized and chaotic, it wasnt worth it at all

  • There is one coming up this Saturday but I don’t collect them for myself. I prefer to post them on Facebook and the only charge will be for postage which they can pay their end. It’s like the parents are collecting them and not the children. Ridiculous

  • This is insane, ridiculous and bad behaviour. Clearly bringing our the worst in people. Shocking really.

  • How ridiculous and to think children are more mature than adults.

  • I do not get this at all. Do people not understand that these are pieces of worthless plastic? They aren’t even going to remember that these existed in a couple of years. Why are people acting so disrespectful and awful?

  • I couldn’t deal with a swap day but it’s sad that people make it unpleasant for others.

  • And once again I am at a loss to understand this trend.

  • Shame on Woolies for not having Staff there to help
Only thing staff did was move the table because it was in the way

Last Coles swap there were staff with a container for each character & you said I want that & you handed over your character

Woolies has a lot to learn from Coles

    • The swap day at our local was well run and organised and the exchanges looked so civilised. Maybe it was dependant on individual stores and set up?

  • We happened upon a swap day and it was civilised and polite and we were given an ooshie by strangers. There were a number of people politely exchanging ooshies and there was no rude behaviour. The mum and daughter that gave us an ooshie said they had completed a set and was offering the bag to another mum. The other mum declined because she did not need the extra ooshies in the bag. There are good people in the world that are not greedy and know how to share and are community minded.

  • These parents should be ashamed of themselves.
Don’t know how the swap days in my area went, don’t feel for joining this craziness and greed

  • Really ruins the fun of these

  • When I went I was pretty lucky, I swapped 6 for 6 so walked away happy. It was a bit crowded when I first went and while waiting in line did a couple of swaps with people also in the line. One lady was patiently waiting in hope that someone would turn up with a blue one that she wanted and she helped me sort mine out.
