We always buy the heart smart cut of silverside from Woolworths.
It cooks better and has a better flavour and texture once cooked.
I like to do mine in the slow cooker with beef stock, cloves, peppercorn, malted vinegar, a little sugar, a pinch of garlic, carrots and onions in the bottom of the slow cooker, some bay leaves and marjoram.
I buy a piece big enough to feed our family plus have it sliced cold on sandwiches the next day. My kids love it, hubby loves it and it is one of my favourite meals.
Served with steamed vegies and white or cheese sauce – delicious!!
This is the only meat my kids will eat… even miss 5!! I have always bought the non heart smart ones and grabbed this when they were out. It cooked up pretty much the same so I think I will be getting it more often. I throw in onion, cloves and bay leaves and my kids love the smell. They like their meat soft so I boil it for about 3hrs and it almost melts in your mouth. great cut but I found it doesn’t go well in a slow cooker unless you want to cook it for about 6hrs.
I find silverside is a rather cheap cut of meat, and that the taste is a bit weird and then weird to describe. A bit stringy as well. I try not to buy this.
So nice, easy to cook full of flovour, healthy for family and good old fashion hot meal I’ve been cooking for years, now with a little twist with the spices added
