Dummies sold across Australia could choke and strangle babies and small children, parents have been warned.

3 Little Birds BIBS Baby Dummies and Chloe Layla and Co BIBS Dummies do not come with a warning that parts of the dummies could break off and get stuck inside children’s throats, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) said.

The ACCC says all pacifiers should come with the warning, or they do not comply with safety regulations.

What are the defects?
Does not comply with the Australian mandatory standard Consumer Goods (Babies Dummies and Dummy Chains) Safety Standard 2017 as Warning label and instructions were not included on product packaging.

What are the hazards?
No warning and directions provided to customers. A torn or broken dummy may pose a choking hazard to children and a cord or ribbon attached to a dummy may pose a strangulation hazard.

What should consumers do?
Consumers should immediately contact the supplier for a copy of the correct information.

  • Where did these dummies come from? They are an ancient design. To my knowledge they are not a well known brand either.

  • Product recalls are so scary. Especially when it is a baby product.

  • You have to be so careful choosing a dummy, especially as you might leave your baby alone with it.

  • I know it’s silly but it’s stuff like this that makes me paranoid. I did try using a pacifier with my first but she never took, haven’t tried with my second, and honestly glad I don’t have to go through the weaning process

  • Good to know it’s just a warning that’s missing and the ACCC is right on top of it.
