These Caramel Dumplings are a very sweet and rich dessert perfect for cold winter nights

Ingredients (serves 4)

  • 1 1/2 cups self raising flour
  • 50 grams butter
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • pinch salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 50 grams butter
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups water

Method

  1. To make the dumplings sift the flour and salt into a bowl. Rub in the butter and then add the sugar and mix. Mix the milk with the vanilla and then add to the flour mix. Combine well.
  2. For the sauce put everything (the 50 grams butter, 1 1/2 cups brown sugar and 1 1/2 cups water) and stir constantly until boiling. Reduce the heat.
  3. Drop tablespoons of the dumpling mix into the sauce. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes.
  4. Serve with ice cream and/or cream.

Notes

These Caramel Dumplings are my husbands favourite dessert. If serving to children make sure that the sauce is not too hot.

  • Yum! You can also do caramel apple dumplings by making a dough and covering peeled apple segments and then cook in a caramel sauce.
