These cheese straws are very easy and fun for kids to make. You can use mustard for a stronger flavour or you can do without mustard.

Ingredients (makes 8 pieces)

  • 1 sheet Puff Pastry
  • 1 cup cheddar / tasty cheese grated
  • 1 Tbsp Parmesan cheese
  • mustard

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees c. Spread a really thin layer of mustard on top of pastry.
  2. Sprinkle evenly with parmesan and cheddar.
  3. Cut into strips and put on baking tray leaving gaps as they will puff up.
  4. Bake in oven 200C until golden and crispy. Cool on wire tray.

  • Excellent rainy day idea to get the kids in the kitchen and making something for their lunch. Would be great served with soup.

  • These are really simple to whip up. A great treat for the kids. I also love puff pastry pizzas by spreading pastry with a bit of tomato paste, throwing on a few toppings and into the oven to get golden.
