Pouches are great for when you’re out and about as they are a hit of fruit and or veg without the mess or the fuss. It’s so easy to make them yourself – the beetroot is a great sweetener and provides a serve of veg for the day – plus it makes the fruit a really cool bright pink colour!

Ingredients (serves 1 | makes 6 pouches)

  • 1 beetroot
  • 2 green apples
  • 2 pears
  • 1 brocolli stem

Method

  1. Dice up the fruit and veg.
  2. Bring to the boil and simmer for 15 minutes.
  3. Blitz it all up with a stick blender or power blender and funnel into your reusable pouches. They will keep in the freezer for a good month.

Notes

You can buy reusable pouches online cheaply and they usually deliver quickly. I've had mine for over a year and they are still going strong!

  • It’s s great idea using broccoli stems and not the flower section at all. The flower has a much stronger flavour and spoil the flavour of the fruit. Beetroot is powerful enough but adds more vegetable. I would be tempted to use carrot or sweet potato instead of beetroot.

  • I did this for both of my children when they were on mush foods. I figured that I could make much better food than what was in packet food and it’ll be a lot more cost effective
