This is more a serving suggestion to help develop the pincer grip with bub. It’s also fun & engages them in food play. This can be done with any mushy food that holds form.

Ingredients (serves 1)

  • 1 Medium potato
  • 1/4 cup Breast Milk/Formula
  • 1 Tbsp Frozen peas

Method

  1. Make a mash with the potato and milk. Boil peas until mushy. (Don't add any seasoning).
  2. Let cool until you can touch without burning yourself and place it into a zip lock snack bag (or piping bag) snip the corner off and on a coloured plate pipe little blobs of potato onto plate and sprinkle peas about. A fun sensory treat for bub!

  • Good idea. Could be done with any sort of mash too.

  • Oh wow, there’s a bit of effort in this one. Lots of mess to be made eating this I think

  • Good for fine motor skills indeed. I might practice this with my 5yr old who has Down Syndrome.

  • At what age is it safe to give a child peas without mashing them?

  • I miss those early meals, watching bub try new foods, and learn how to feed themselves. They frequently had peas and pumpkin/potato like this. Why can’t mums have fun decorating meals too?
