This Sticky Honey Sesame Chicken Recipe is just as good as take away! Honey chicken is a favourite here and everyone looks forward to this for dinner!

Ingredients (serves 4)

  • 1 Packet Inghams diced chicken pieces
  • Oil for deep frying
  • Toasted sesame seeds for garnish
  • FRYING BATTER
  • 1 Egg white
  • 1/2 cup Plain flour, sifted
  • 1/4 cup Cornflour
  • 1/2 tsp Baking powder
  • 1/2 cup Ice cold water
  • 1 TBS Oil
  • Pinch of salt
  • HONEY SESAME SAUCE
  • 1/3 cup Honey
  • 1 tsp Apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 TBS Ketchup
  • 1 tsp Sesame oil
  • 2 tsp Cornflour
  • 1/2 cup Cold water
  • 1/2 tsp Salt

Method

  1. Whisk all the “Frying Batter” ingredients together until smooth. Set aside. Drop in the chicken cubes, mix well until they are well coated. Set aside. Mix all the ingredients of the “Honey Sesame Sauce” together and set aside.
  2. Heat up a saute pan and add about 2-inch of oil on medium to high heat. When the oil is fully heated, gently drop in the battered chicken cubes, one by one, making sure it is spread out to prevent sticking together. Continue to fry until the colour of the batter changes to golden brown. Dish out and drain on paper towels.
  3. Transfer 2 tablespoons of the frying oil in a wok or skillet. Add in the Honey Sesame Sauce, and bring to a light simmer or until the sauce thickens. Drop in the chicken, stir-fry a few times to combine the sauce and chicken, add the sesame seeds, dish out and serve immediately with steamed white rice, or Chinese fried rice.

  • This sounds super tasty. I prefer recipies with less ingredients tho as it’s easier for me but I’d love to try one day

  • At first glance o the ingredients, this looks daunting, but a second longer look made it much more acceptable. The only other thing I would do would be to soak the chicken cubes in bicarbonate of soda and water for around 20 minutes before following the recipe so that you get that really soft chicken texture that take-aways have. With a couple of very minor tweaks [special diabetic & dialysis tomato sauce instead of bought ketchup and special dialysis baking powder] this will be an acceptable dish in our household. I would have to do the bicarb soak as well. [2 teaspoons to 500m water]. Thanks so much for sharing this one.

  • It is interesting that you only use the egg white in the batter. For other recipes I have always added a whole egg.
