Have a go at making this great sugar free apple and oat slice recipe, to enjoy with your friends or pack in a lunch box as a healthy treat.

There is no added Sugar or Salt in this recipe but do have a look at the ingredients on the apple puree when you are buying.   This will keep up to three days or I cut and wrap in bundles of three or four and freeze.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup of Rolled Oats
  • 1 cup of Plain Flour
  • 1 cup Desiccated Coconut
  • 1 tablespoon Chia Seed
  • 210g Apple Puree (1 little jar of baby food Apple Puree)
  • 1 cup grated apple (I used 1 large Granny Smith)
  • 150 grams Butter
  • ½ teaspoon Bicarbonate of Soda
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • Cinnamon or Nutmeg

METHOD

Pre heat oven 170 degrees fan forced.

Place your Oats, Flour and Coconut in a large bowl and mix together.   Stir in the grated Apple and then the Apple Puree.

Melt the butter in microwave or stove top. Once it has melted stir in Bicarbonate and water.

Pour butter mixture into dry ingredients. Stir well.

Press into a baking paper lined tray and sprinkle with Cinnamon or Nutmeg or both.

Bake for 20 -25min at 170 degrees Celsius.

Note: this is not a sweet tasting slice at all. You can add two Tablespoons of Honey in the butter when melting it. To give it a little bit of a sweet taste.

  • This looks interesting! Despite ‘liking’ most of the chocolate recipes on this page, I AM trying to reduce the sugar in our families diet. I could never cut it out but reducing it is smart for all of us.
