It’s really important as a Mum to ensure that you ensure that your family are in optimal health and learn healthy eating practices.

Healthy eating starts with healthy shopping, so here are 10 tips to guide you to a quicker, more enjoyable, tastier and healthier food shop.

1. Mission Control

You will not only save time and money but avoid impulse buying if you have already planned your meals, know what you need and shop with a mission.

2. Quality Control

With fresh produce take time to look at the quality of the product – no bruising, good colour, ripeness and smell.

3. Be Seasonal

Not only does produce in season taste way superior, it also costs less.

4. Be Local

Shop locally – your butcher + greengrocer appreciate your support and will offer you much more personalised service than major retailers.

5. Be Natural

Nature has given us the best food, as far as possible avoid highly processed foods, preservatives + additives.

6. Enjoy + Explore

Make shopping fun by exploring new shopping avenues – Growers Markets, Farmer’s markets + Organic markets which offer high quality produce and diverse products.

7. Experience

Keep your self interested and inspired by trying new foods, cuisines and recipes. There are plenty of nutritious meals from all around the globe.

8. Educate Yourself

With breakfast, lunch + dinner you eat more than 1,000 meals a year. Isn’t it worth spending some time learning to understand labels and nutritional information so you know what you are eating?

9. Don’t shop on an empty stomach

You will end up buying more.

10. Temple or Tip?

If feeling tempted by an excess of unhealthy foods ask yourself, “Is my body a temple or tip?”

  • I will definitely have to remember the “temple or tip” question for future shopping trips. I’m a lot better since having had a bub … but I do succumb to temptation too often.
