Hello!

Has COVID-19 sucked out our sense of humour along with our freedom? Bunnings has pulled a controversial Christmas decoration off the shelves as some shoppers have complained its inappropriate.

Christmas has come early to the hardware giant with Bunnings stocking a full range of Christmas lights, baubles and fun inflatables. But one poor Christmas decoration has got the axe after a few testy shoppers got into a tizz.

I might have a bit of a warped sense of humour, but a Christmas decoration that makes me giggle gets a big thumbs up from me. But no, the powers that be at Bunnings have made the call that an axe throwing Santa has no place at the Christmas table this year.

INAPPROPRIATE!

The hardware chain said it had withdrawn the new $129 inflatable Christmas decoration after deeming it “inappropriate”.

“While we’re always looking for unique Christmas items we decided this product wasn’t appropriate and we’ve withdrawn it from sale,” Bunnings director of merchandise Phil Bishop said in a statement.

Stunt Santa Is Out!

The Christmas decoration that got the cut was a massive 1.8m inflatable which include an axe-wielding Santa and a reindeer stuck to a rotating bullseye. The product was topped off with illuminated LED lights.

I Want One!

“It’s really cool, the target deflates after being ‘axed’ and pops back up again,” said one excited shopper on Facebook.

“I’m horrified but want one,” said another.

Karen’s Work Is Done!

While of course there are a few who are clapping their hands in glee, others were left shaking their heads in dismay.

There were one or two brave supporters who expressed their delight:

“Yes, let’s encourage respect for animals. There is so much animal cruelty in the world. Let bring up children to be respectful and caring.”

BOOOOO!

But most were loudly boo-ing the move to cancel the humorous Christmas decoration.

“My 4 year old thinks that reindeer is super brave and laughed! Inappropriate? Or you’re just teaching your kids to act like sissys and EVERYTHING is offensive, get a grip,” read a comment on Facebook.

“I’m pretty sure people would love to substitute the reindeer for something else..
Ehhhh buy a sense of humor people, don’t like it, don’t buy it! Problem solved!”

“I grow up with and raising my children with if its something inappropriate that’s ok for someone else to have cause they may not find it inappropriate, and the same goes to others with us.
It’s just simple, you don’t like something don’t buy it, you like something buy it.”

“My 10 year old thought it was awesome. They also have Santa riding a shark so his reasoning was the reindeers were no longer needed with Santas new transport”

“Inappropriate, yes. Absolutely hilarious, also yes. And yes, I so would have bought this!”

“FFS does no one have a sense of humour anymore!! This is a Christmas spin on a carnival stunt act, not a torture device. Grow up!”

“I think some ppl need to ask Santa for a sense of humour for Christmas this year”

While the Bunnings Christmas loot no longer includes the stunt Santa, there is still plenty more festive cheer on offer. There’s a Santa riding a shark, driving a forklift full of pressies, and even a musical Santa playing the saxophone.

  • I agree with Bunnings decision!

  • The ‘correct’ police at work again – gee it’s hard to find any humour anywhere these days.

  • I think people should lighten up a little, it was just meant as a joke!

  • Absolutely ridiculous. If you don’t like it, don’t buy it.

  • It’s a wonder those people don’t want to remove Santa riding the shark as well. I can’t see anything wrong with it personally. People need to get a sense of humour because we need something to celebrate this year.

  • Probably would have gone over my head and not noticed.

  • I’m not fussed by the product and probably wouldn’t have even noticed it. But again, the minority with the loudest voices get things done. Not fair.

  • It is obviously a gag for a laugh. I think it should be taken in the spirit it was meant.

  • R.E.A.L.L.Y ??!! People need to get 1) A sense of humour, and 2) A “Grip”……..each to their own, if some find it funny, let them purchase it, if some don’t find it funny or “inappropriate” – move on, don’t buy it (and get over yourself) :’)

  • I agree with Bunnings it is not appropriate to sell this decoration. Christmas is a time of goodwill and kindness to others . There is enough real violence in the world without displaying it for everyone to see as a joke.

  • Oh my goodness, I’m so sick to death of all these whinging entitled Sookie brats, since covid all people have done is whinge about EVERYTHING. Nothing better to do with their whinging a$$es but suck the fun out of everything.

  • What happened to our Aussie sense of humor. These days you have to think twice before opening your mouth in case you offend anyone around you.

  • I would describe it as ridiculous.

  • I was in Bunnings the other day, and so many of the decorations struck me as quite expensive. And not the sort of thing that would become a family heirloom.
