The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expected to christen Archie in a private ceremony, which has royal fans in a huge tizz.

Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor will be christened at Windsor Chapel, where his parents were married in 2018 and where both Princes William and Harry were christened.

The ceremony is believed to be taking place on Saturday 6 July, although the date is yet to be confirmed by the Palace.

A royal source tells Daily Mail Meghan, 37, and Harry, 34, will close the christening to the public because their son is a “private citizen”.

It will be a “very small gathering”, the source says, with images to be released on Sunday through media outlets and the couple’s Instagram account.

Royal biographer Penny Junor, says the Sussexes are guilty of double standards.

“They can’t have it both ways. Either they are totally private, pay for their own house and disappear out of view or play the game the way it is played,” Junor tells The Times.

“Seeing Archie and his godparents arriving at the christening is what people are interested in; it isn’t baring your baby’s soul, just giving the public who love and support them a crumb to enjoy.

“If they want it to be really private, hold it in a parish church, not St George’s Chapel where royal ceremonies are held.”

  • They are entitled to a private ceremony away from the media and their constantly flashing cameras. I am surprised the location has been released, It will keep the media and their spies busy watching out for their attendance until after the christening.

  • I can understand the ceremony itself being private, but not the arrivals.

  • Keep it private and use your own money for your life and then hopefully more can be kept private if that’s what they want.

  • It’s their choice of course, but being who they are, they are expected to share something with the public. They could at least have a photo taken of the event.

  • It’s their choice. I understand why they have done it although I’d love to see another pic of the baby!!!

  • A christening is a private event and why do the public need to see it?
Good on them for keeping it private!

  • Their choice, who are these people to decide

  • Why not keep the ceremony private but let people see them on their way there and afterwards. Best of both worlds for everyone.

  • I can totally understand their decision !

    • I agree – I have no major need to see a pic or know about it.

  • Their the parents, if they want it to be private, so let them be!

  • Oh leave them alone. He’s their baby and they can do his christening however they like.

  • I don’t understand what the problem is if the ceremony is with closed doors.
