Australian guitarist, Phil Emmanuel, has sadly passed away.

According to reports, the musician was staying with his brother, Darcy Emmanuel, in Parkes, a small town in NSW, when he died suddenly after suffering an asthma attack. He was 65.

“On behalf of the family, it is with great sadness that I announce the passing of our much-loved brother, Philip Ernest Emmanuel,” Darcy said in a statement.

“We are all devastated,” Darcy said. “This comes on top of the loss of our sister Virginia Grace on April 14, aged 69. Philip and Virginia were virtually joined at the hip and I don’t think either one would have been able to live without the other.”

Phil was also the brother of Tommy Emmanuel, 62.

Tributes flow for the aussie legend.

  • How sad. Maybe he followed his sister ? When siblings or spouses are so close and one dies, the other may follow.

  • How sad, such a talented musician and all round nice guy, dying too early. I remember over 30 years ago, I went to stay with a friend in Melbourne and she said we are going out tonight to the Corner Hotel in Richmond to see the Emmanuel brothers who I had not heard of. They were amazing, so talented and entertaining, I will never forget that night, when they were not well known then. Phil ended up being the lesser known but Tommy always said he was more talented.
