Tragic news after six-year-old girl died in a horror quad bike crash in rural NSW.

Police said that around 12.15pm yesterday, five children aged between six and 13 were riding two quad bikes on a property near Pilliga, west of Narrabri.

One of the bikes, carrying three children, left the roadway and struck two trees.

A six-year-old girl died at the scene, while a 13-year-old was airlifted to Sydney Children’s Hospital with serious head injuries.

A third child escaped unharmed.

Police say they are investigating all circumstances surrounding the crash, including if any of the children were wearing helmets.

  • What a sad incident. My thought and prayers go out to the family who lost their girl. Hope the 13yr old will recover well.

  • I fell it is negligence to allow that many children to be on a quad bike.
Is there a way of restricting the speed on a quad bike? There is on some gophers but apparently they can be alterred. Children need to be strictly supervised and taught how to ride a quad bike safely. I know a girl who lived on a farm who was taught how to ride one. They lived on a farm and the Dad wouldn’t leave her in the house alone. He found a way of governing the speed on hers and rode at the same slow speed she did. They were on a sheep farm. Water in troughs had to be checked and sheep to make sure none of them had been injured in any way. The little girl was dressed in safety gear including a helmet, gloves and strong boots her size.

  • Sad to hear yet another child has died riding a quad bike even sadder to think parents let 3 children on one bike eve worse if no helmets. Warnings are there for a reason. R.I.P little one.
