Hello!

Old habits sometimes die hard, especially when it comes to the daily ritual of washing our dishes, pots and pans. But there is a way to use your dishwasher everyday and still save time, energy and money.

The team at dishwashingexpert.com.au have taken the guesswork out of ensuring you’re getting great results and not costing yourself or the planet a fortune!

Here are their top tips on saving time, energy and money:

  • Do not pre-rinse dishes by hand, it’s not needed and only wastes water.
  • Fully load the dishwasher (i.e. resist the temptation to run it when it is only half full) and ensure it is loaded correctly, leaving room for water to circulate for a brilliant ‘first time, everytime’ clean
  • Use 50°C, ECO or AUTO wash cycle as your every day program, designed to use minimal energy consumption but still maintain cleaning.
  • Use the timer setting to run the dishwasher in the middle of the night to use cheaper energy rates.
  • Check and clean drains, filters, spray arms and check rubber seals regularly to ensure efficient operation.
  • Recycle product packaging.

  • Some items cannot be put in a dishwasher. Some things that are not supposed to scratch do even if they are labelled suitable to be put in the dishwasher. Some types of non-stick cooking pans, and saucepans are not aupposed to be put in the dishwasher. They are supposed to be wiped and washed immediately. My electricity bill climbed and I don’t even use it every day.

  • I use my dishwasher rarely…I find washing dishes therapeutic.

  • Unless I put my dishwasher on the long cycle some of my dishes do not come clean.
You need to put it on every night if not rinsing your dishes if you have ants outside.
We don’t fill our dishwasher in one day. By the next day the food dries on. The amount of time that water runs into the dishwater runs for I don’t use as much as it does. I use a 1/2 sink of water. Don’t tell me the dishwasher uses less than that because I paused mine one day when I realised I hadn’t put the cleaner in it. There was plenty of water in the bottom of it. Even though mine is supposed to dry the dishes it doesn’t dry them properly if there is grooves in them.

  • I love my dishwasher and use it for most dishes on the Eco setting. I am very skeptical about putting pots and pans in though. I’m not convinced that it will clean them as well as a good soak and scrub does in the sink. Slowly I am getting more confident and trying it out only after lots of rinsing ie,: spag bog saucepans

  • I just can’t help myself, I always rinse. I think it’s seeing the goop that accumulates in the bottom that does it to me.

  • I honestly never want a dishwasher :S unless we have 2 more kids I don’t think there is a need for it. My husband and I wash and dry up within 30 mins of main meals or even as we go. Basically the kitchen is clean before we finish eating other than the plates knives and forks we have just used.

  • I don’t know where I’d be with out our dishwasher. Oh yes I do washing the dishes that the kids leave out for me to stack into the dishwasher. If only there was a magnet that attracted them right into the dishwasher and packed them away again in my pantry.

  • I’ve never used the dishwasher. Hand washing has always been easier and more convenient.

  • I can’t believe people have but don’t use their dishwashers. Its the fastest way to clean up the kitchen everyday. My parents used to say they never filled it, but by using a short rinse cycle on day one and leaving to put it on on day two, they are now making good use of their dishwasher.

  • With only 2.5 people, I never seem to have enough dishes to warrant turning on the dishwasher. by
