A horror car crash that killed a Queensland mother and her four children may not have been an accident.

Police have revealed they are investigating why there were no skid marks from the vehicle of Charmaine McLeod when her car slammed head first into an oncoming truck on the Bunya Highway near Kumbia, on Monday night.

The horrific accident killed the 35-year-old mother and her children, Aaleyn, six, Matilda, five, Wyatt, four, and Zaidok, two.

Police have also reportedly found evidence at the scene of the crash which prompted specialist officers to be brought into the investigation, although it is not clear what was discovered.

It is also understood police cannot work out why the mother and her children were three hours away from their Eli Waters home, near Hervey Bay, when the crash happened.

The father of the children, and Ms McLeod’s ex-partner James McLeod said there were no friends or family who lived in that area, and he had no idea why they were there at the time of the crash.

Mr McLeod told Daily Mail Australia on Friday that there was a lot about the tragic accident which didn’t add up, but he was waiting for police to get to the bottom of it.

Further details to come…

  • I wonder how far apart the 2 trucks were. If they were close together it seems strange she hit the 2nd one unless the 1st one was able to take evasive action. Maybe the truck lights “blinded” her the fact that its lights are so much higher than car ones are. The Police would be aware of the weather and road conditions. Hopefully none of them felt anything. Such a tragedy. I also feel for the truck driver. As a result of the accident he may never be able to drive a truck again. His emotional problems as a result of this could be permanent.

  • No skid marks, one has to wonder what was going on? Her husband or ex-husband was on supervised visits. There was shown dash cam of the car heading straight for the truck, that has now being taken down. Nothing is worth taking the lives of four innocent children and scaring other drivers to try solve your problems. Hopefully they find out it was a medical thing like a blackout and the mother was not trying to harm her children. Hopefully the children were sleeping as it is terrible to think that was the last thing they saw.

  • Very sad on all accounts, but can we please exercise caution on finger pointing. I remember a case in Victoria where a mother had fingers pointed at her in an attempted murder suicide. She was separated from the kids’ father and survived. Their two sons did not. It was a case of carbon monoxide poisoning. Both parents united to campaign on awareness of the dangers.

    • So true. We will probably never know the real reason. RIP to the family

  • Oh my just makes it all the tragic. I am just hoping that those beautiful little babies were snoozing or busy playing or even fighting to realise what was happening. My heart goes out to the dad who is trying to make sense of all this. Also my heart goes out to the two forgotten victims the truck drivers. They were innocently doing their job when all this exploded around them and to know kiddies were involved these men will be suffering big time . Oh what a horrible horrible tragedy all the way round .
