An 18 year old was shocked to see a child being tossed off the bridge into the river, while his mum looked on laughing.

Kaylub Fawley was swimming with mates at the Wynoochee River in Washington  when he spotted the child and his mother. The teen had his smartphone out and managed to record the child’s terrifying plunge.

“I looked up and was like, ‘Whoa, there’s a kid up there’ — I immediately started recording,” Fawley told The Washington Post. “This guy just threw the kid right off the bridge, and he smacked down right on his neck.”

“As soon as that kid hit the water, he went straight down and straight back up,” Fawley added, noting that the child disappeared underwater before his life jacket quickly pulled him back to the surface. “He was just screaming the whole time.”

Swimmers who witnessed the shocking scene reported it to police.

The following day, Fawley posted the video on Facebook, writing that “this is what happens when some parents just don’t care.”

The boy’s mother can be heard cheering as her child plummets toward the water — which, Fawley said, ranges from about eight to 12 feet deep, depending on how much it’s rained recently on the Olympic Peninsula.

The sound of the child’s body smacking the water is also audible.

“When he landed, I thought he broke his neck,” another witness, Brianna Jones, told The Post. “Usually, people that jump off the bridge are my age or older.”

Jones, who is 19, said the child nearly hit his head on a steel beam on his way down; he barely missed some of the large underwater boulders that experienced jumpers are keen to avoid.

But what happened next was even more shocking to the dozens of swimmers gathered in the water, Jones said: As soon as the screaming child surfaced, she said, his mother “was trying to make it seem like the whole incident was fun.” Other swimmers began reprimanding the woman — and the woman began screaming back.

“We all started freaking out and yelling at her, ‘You can’t do that!” Jones recounted. “She said, ‘He’s my kid, and it’s none of your business.’”

“You just don’t throw a kid off a bridge!” Jones added. “It made me so mad. … People like that shouldn’t have children.”

Jones and Fawley said police arrived within 15 minutes and were shown the video.

“The police officer watched it several times, and he was pretty upset,” Fawley said, noting that the boy was treated in an ambulance and later released. “I kept asking if the little boy was all right, and the cop said he was fine, but he was shaken up pretty bad.”

Fawley told The Post he decided to make the video public because he wants people to understand the consequences of child endangerment.

The video has been shared over 3300 times. Watch below.

  • The boy will be emotionally scared even if he isn’t physically injured.
There was a guy involved as well as the Mother. Neither are fit to care for a child. If the Police Officer passed the comment about the boy being OK he wouldn’t have known. Had the boy inhaled water it would have gone into his lungs which causes what is known as secondary drowning if not treated.

  • The boy was a bit young to be a thrill seeker.

  • Not an act of a responsible parent at all!

  • Why the hell would a mother want to do that to her child. I’m glad that the boy was alright but I hope he doesn’t have to go back home with her. The next time he might not be so lucky.

  • That is certainly not the way to rear a child – hope the police organised him to go into foster care or similar.

  • Agreed in that these people should not have children.

  • How sick is that ?!! It says the boy was treated in an ambulance and later released….hope they don’t just leave it at that but that this family will be watched by community services. When they do things like this, what else do they do behind closed doors ?

  • How irresponsible can you be. Imagine how fearful that child was. I hope the department of child services removes him from her care, because she doesn’t care especially when she laughs at the incident. Shame on her.

  • what a stupid woman, how can any parent put their child in a dangerous situation like that. some people are seriously missing brain cells, she and the other person who threw the kid should both be charged with child endangerment and DHS needs to look into her parenting abilities. so sad for this child to be brought up with parents/parent and partner who have no understanding of care.

  • That is terrifying, the poor child must be traumatised, the child needs to be taken from their parents, absolutely despicable!

  • Some people should not be parents and this is one of them.

  • Oh my God. This is disgusting and so disturbing. The noise that child made hitting the water made me feel sick to my stomach. I hope the authorities act appropriately and punish this mother.

  • That makes me sick. I hope that child is removed from their custody

  • This child should now be on child protective services’ radar and the family investigated. If they think this is okay, what else are they capable of?
