He appeared to take to fatherhood like a duck to water, but it seems Simon Cowell has only just settled into his new role.

Cowell and partner Lauren Silverman welcomed their first child Eric on Valentine’s Day this year, but the TV mogul told Radio Times magazine, he never would have guessed fatherhood was in his future.

If you’d seen me 18 months ago and said “Simon, back at home now you’ve got two dogs and a six-month-old baby, ” ‘I’d go “Yeah, right!”

‘It was never going to happen,’ he continued. ‘But it did. And I’m enjoying my life now.’

He’s a cutie. I had a really nice day yesterday working from home, with him and the two dogs in the garden

The X Factor UK judge also spoke about how it took some time to adjust to being a dad, revealing ‘The first five months were weird. Eric didn’t have a clue who I was – I could have been anybody.’

‘But the last two weeks have been good. He’s started to recognise me, and as everybody knows, I demand recognition!’

Cowell has also shared photos of his journey as a dad, posting on social media:

“I never knew how much love and pride I would feel”

More recently, the celebrity dad tweeted this gorgeous photo of he and Eric while on holiday:

“Taking after daddy”

And while he isn’t a fan of changing his son’s nappy, after famously declaring he would leave the dirty nappies for the nanny, Cowell is hands-on with his son Eric, sharing this adorable shot back in June:

“Bath time”

How did you take to parenthood? Was it a natural progression or did it take you time to adjust?
