This is a super easy and fun stained glass Easter egg project for kids.

We keep a box for any crafty off-cuts we have; ribbons, wool, stickers, tissue paper, sequins etc. and it comes out for projects such as this. The variety of textures, shapes and colours are great for kids to experiment with and it’s nice to get them interested in recycling odds and ends around the house to see how they can be used. Hang them from the window to catch the sun and shine bright at Easter time!

Materials:

  • Contact paper (2 pieces)
  • Scrap material
  • Scissors
  • Sharpie or pen
  • String

Method:

1. Start by drawing the outline of an egg on paper and then cut it out. We printed one off and used it as a template.

2. Trace the outline of the egg onto a piece of contact paper and cut out.

3. Have fun placing colourful crafty material all over the egg, bright colours work really well.

4. Peel the back off the second piece of contact paper and place it on top of the decorated egg (sticky sides together).

5. Press down and smooth out any lumps of bubbles.

6. Cut around the egg so both pieces of contact are oval shaped.

7. Punch a small hole at the top of the egg and thread some string to tie up in the sunshine!
