Hello!

Coles have confirmed that a new round of Stikeez will be launched in store this week. But this time, the popular fruit and veggie themed collectables are recyclable.

Fresh Stikeez will be launched in Coles and Coles Express from Wednesday 12 February and will be accompanied by a national healthy eating program to help Aussie parents get their kids to eat a nutritious balanced diet.

New Characters To Collect

Stikeez Fresh Friends will feature 24 new characters inspired once again by fresh fruit and veggies – but this
year Coles is adding a whole fridge full of fun including characters from different food groups like dairy,
proteins and grains.

The main difference in this new collection, is that the Stikeez can now be recycled at all Coles supermarkets and will be repurposed into useful products including anti-fatigue mats, gym matting, retail flooring and carpet underlay.

The collectibles form part of the Coles Fresh 5 Challenge which encourages kids to eat all the Five Food Groups daily by introducing a ‘reward’ system. Endorsed by the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation, the Coles Fresh 5 Challenge allows children to track the different food groups they have tried by adding a Stikeez to the corresponding item on a specially-designed placemat available free from Coles supermarkets. The number of serves is based on recommendations set by the Australian Dietary Guidelines.

Encourage Kids To Try New Foods

“Customers have told us they use Stikeez as a fun tool to encourage kids to eat more types of fresh foods – our research showed that 31 per cent of customers who collected the first Stikeez range increased their purchases of fruit and vegetables and 50 per cent bought a wider variety of fresh produce,” Chief Marketing Officer Lisa Ronson said.

“Kids who had never touched broccoli or tasted a fresh tomato found it fun to challenge themselves to eat foods of all colours of the rainbow.”

Fully Recyclable

“We wanted to bring Stikeez and a healthy eating initiative back but in a more sustainable way. Customers can now return any duplicate, old and spare Stikeez back to Coles supermarkets to be recycled.”

Coles have also announced that the collectables will be wrapped in responsibly sourced paper that’s fully recyclable
in kerbside recycling bins at home.

The Stikeez characters have been given some of the most popular Aussie kids’ names such as Abby Avocado, Benji Bread, Chloe Cauliflower, Ella Eggs and Will Walnut.

How To Get Your New Stikeez

Customers can collect one Stikeez at the check-out for every $30 they spend in one transaction at Coles Supermarkets, Coles Express and Coles Online.

You can also pick up the Coles Fresh 5 Challenge placemats for free in the fresh produce department at Coles supermarkets, while stocks last, or download and print a version from www.coles.com.au/Stikeez.

There is also a range of exclusive Stikeez Fresh Friends merchandise available including collector cases and collector tins for $4 each, a kid’s plate for $3 which helps kids with the Coles Fresh 5 Challenge, kids bowls and tumblers for $2 each and drink bottles for $5.

  • This got ended rather abruptly… I wonder when they’ll next be able to insider this sort of thing.

  • We collected them this round but won’t in future

  • Won’t accept these – my children too old anyway

    Reply

  • I always accept them at the check out, but I pass them on to either my daughter who collects them, or to my grandson who is happy to get them but usually just loses them

    Reply

  • I tried to avoid them but once the kids get wind it’s hard to not have these end up all over my house. At least they are recyclable although having to take them back to Coles to do so is not ideal.

  • I will be recycling them by not collecting them in the first place

    Reply

  • At least they have a recycle bin for you to dispose of any extra ones you will receive.

  • I still don’t understand all the fuss over these gimmicks.

  • Not all recyclable items can go in curbside recycle bins though. It depends on your local council facility and what they can recycle.
Our local council have stayed that only plastic items with the ♻ and a 1 or 2 Can be recycled here, which for us now means a lot of recyclable items are now going in the waste bin

  • Great that Coles are listening to their customers and audience to make these recyclable. I have an adult son now but was still collecting these for others. However, I have collectible fatigue and feel like there’s not enough time or space between these.

  • I don’t shop at Coles but I like that they are recyclable

  • I like that they’re recyclable. That’s aways good.

  • No, not interested.

  • Oh goodie- I wonder if the person behind these has young children who beg to bring home the minis/stickeez and then have to go around finding them all over the house for months on end?

    Reply

  • Not something I am keen on, didn’t collect them last time either.
