5 month old with sleep apnia and long wait lists...

I have twin 3yr old daughters and a 5month old son. My daughters sleep with no problem, but my son wakes continually through the night gasping for air. Its been so scary for us and upon going to the doctors we were told there was a 12 MONTH wait for the childrens hospital.. Sleep apnia is one of the causes of SIDS which by the time my son waits 12 months he will be out of the danger zone being 17 months old.

We found a specialist over an hour from our house and took him there today and the doctor said his situation was bad enough to warrant being put on an urgent list and first in line for cancellation but even then it can take up to 2 months. Why is the system so slow with kids???
