Hello!

I never thought that this would happen to me, to us.

My family and I are from small remote town in central Queensland, where everyone knows each other. There’s not a lot of traffic, and the people are very friendly and kind. People would greet each other and stop for a chat when passing by on the streets or would wave from their porches when we took a stroll down the neighborhood. Before we even had a car in this town, we used to cycle everywhere: to and from work, to the market, to the movies, even at night; we felt safe here. You’d never see anyone speeding on the road, all the cars are so pristine even as they park angled, rear in.

But the other day my family and I experienced a very brusque awakening. We were heading to town in our family sedan – my husband, five month old son and myself – to meet a friend for afternoon tea. We had just passed the Catholic school and approached the one and only roundabout in our town when CRUNCH… our one and only family car was crushed from behind. The impact shocked my son the most, who cried and cried. It wasn’t until I turned around and looked behind me did I understand what had happened. We were rear-ended by an SUV with a bull bar, and it completed crushed our entire boot.

The biggest shock for me was when I saw the SUV reverse and try to exit through the left lane and onto the side road… They didn’t even get out to see if the people in the car that they had hit was ok. I was shocked again to see all the other cars around us who had witnessed the accident just continue on their way without stopping…

I thank God for protecting us that day from any serious injury. And while we may be in a friendly small town, it’s only friendly when the going is good.

  • And I’m willing to bet the car wasn’t a local?! We have the same idyllic lifestyle as you, occasionally messed up by visitors :/

  • Thats awful,, But if you can in your next car or this one once repaired see if you can get the front and rear dash cameras installed.. So if it ever happens again the person will get in trouble as you hopefully will have proof of who it was.. Hope your son is ok travelling in cars now it would of scared him a lot…

  • Absurd! And the owner of the SUV went away? Were you able to write down the number of the plate?
What an ugly experience. And nobody checking if you were all right. :-(
I’m sorry for this sad experience.
