Hello!

I just wanted to give a shout-out to my mum and all of the other grandparents out there who we couldn’t live without!

My mum was with me throughout my 4 day labour and held my hand right up until the moment when my beautiful boy came into this world! Since becoming a mum for the first time I have called and messaged my mum and my mother in law countless times asking for words of advice, reassurance and a helping hand when things got overwhelming! I had to go back to work when bub was just four months old, which wasn’t easy! It was daunting thinking of leaving him with a stranger while he was still so little, so when mum offered to look after him it was a huge weight off my shoulders. It was also a huge sacrifice for mum.

Seeing the way that my son has bonded with his grandma has been so precious. He waves goodbye when I leave with a huge smile on his face and he greets me when I get home with the same enthusiasm! What a joy to know he is in such loving company while I have to be apart from him (which doesn’t get any easier the older he gets – I still miss him every time I drive away!)

I am so grateful for having my mum there to help me and so I just wanted to say a huge thankyou to her. As we start to think about extending our family again it is so nice to know that I have mum’s experience and graciousness with her willingness to help and be such a big part of her grandchildren’s lives.

In today’s world it is harder for families to make ends meet and pay the bills so more often than not both mum and dad have to work, which has seen a lot of grandparents out there step in to help carry the load and ease the burden. I know that I cherished my grandparents as I grew up and I am still fortunate enough to still have them in my life today. It is such a joy to now see my mum taking on the role of grandma and I will be forever grateful for everything she has done for me and my precious family!

  • My mum had barely anything to do with my kids, partly because of distance, partly because I didn’t get along with my dad and he didn’t allow mum much contact. But my mother in law more than made up,for it. I hope I’ll be a great Nan, I am looking forward to exoeriencing it
